I kinda like the new Mad Dog, just like the old one. I'd love to see more ammo on this configuration though.

I think it has 3t to much armor. A successor should be able to carry everything weapon wise of the original within reason.

I think you should take a look on Mk. III, which does just this (FF, ES, 30 tons pod space). I'd consider this to be more of a complementary design, rather than a successor. Standard Mad Dog stays relevant and solid, but in case that a star fights as a unit rather than as a dueling fanclub, the Mk. IV is the one that could be used to expose it's armour to the enemy and hold them back for a while from it's weaker armoured starmates.

Definitely more ammo, then again if your enemies are standing about 8 salvos of 30 points of damage, perhaps you should be withdrawing to fight another day anyway.

I am actually going to disagree with Vagabond, I like the armor and am willing to sacrifice pod space for it. I think with all the new weapons one should be able to come up with comparable firepower to the original even with less tonnage.
