Bryant [Global News Agency] - Breaking News: At 1940 hours, Brein local time, Professor Farrell, of the Jennings Observatory in Crowley County, reported observing 'several explosions of incandescent gas', occurring at regular intervals on the gas planet Maahes. Spectroscopic analysis indicates the gas plumes to be mostly hydrogen, ejected from the upper atmosphere with enormous velocity. Professor Pierson of the Observatory at Bryant Vocational Academy confirms Farrell's observation, and describes the phenomenon as 'like jets of blue flame shot from an autocannon'.
Both professors declined to comment further on the cause of these luminescent hydrogen plumes, except to say that it is likely a natural phenomenon. GNA will provide more details as soon as they become available. _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

Bryant [Global News Agency] - Breaking News: According to anonymous sources at the Office of the Legate in Brein, a priority bulletin from Captain Morse of the Southern Polar Monitoring Station reports that mid-system sensor relays have detected a total of three “possible hyperspace jump pulses”, originating from somewhere in the vicinity of the planet Maahes. This would seem to confirm similar readings reported by Jump Station Zenith earlier this morning. At this time, there have been no communications received from the alleged craft, and identifying their exact position is proving difficult to pinpoint.
It is unclear, at this time, whether these apparent jump pulses have anything to do with yesterday's report regarding strange hydrogen plumes bursting forth from the gas giant. Although he declined to comment on these phenomena, Colonel Carl Philips, of the Bryant Citizens’ Militia, is advising the public not to worry over what may simply be “cosmic swamp gas”. GNA will keep you posted as further information develops. _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

Bryant [Global News Agency] - News Update: According to official statements coming out of the Office of the Legate in Brein, the recently leaked reports of unidentified hyperspace jump pulses in the vicinity of the planet Maahes may have been the result of a peculiar--but otherwise completely natural--thermo-chemical event somewhere in the middle altitudes of the Maahesian atmosphere. Colonel Philips of the BCM, citing theories advanced by Professor Pierson of the Bryant Vocational Academy, suggested that the electromagnetic and hydrogen gas bursts detected over the last couple of days in or near Maahes was an ultra-dense pocket of suspended hydrogen that was somehow explosively ignited by static lightning with sufficient power to mimic the kinds of thermal and EM pulses typically seen from arriving JumpShips. Further noting that the latest data, placing the source of these pulses as "very close" to the gas giant's gravity well, Philips said that the chances of any JumpShips surviving a hyperspace arrival there would have been "astronomically high; perhaps a billion to one against".
Not everyone is placated by this news, however. First Citizen Elizabeth Welles, referencing several calls to her office demanding answers about the planetary defense in the event of an invasion, once more remarked that the state of Bryant's military preparedness remains a cause for alarm.
"The recent concerns from my constituents highlights what has only become a worsening sense of public security since the provisional governor signed away the entirety of Bryant's BattleMech and heavy armored defenses to RAF control," Welles told reporters from just outside her home in the village of Cornwallis. "No amount of citing Bryant's lack of military value, the presence of the Fortress Wall, or descriptions of 'naturally occurring stellar phenomena', can void the fact that, should any invasion force come here--however unlikely such a thing may be--the people of Bryant have only a volunteer infantry defense militia and personal firearms to turn them away."
In light of this latest "scare", as Welles termed it, she has renewed her calls for Provisional Governor Becca Jareque to appeal to Terra for at least some form of regular, 'Mech-based RAF garrison to be re-established on Bryant. As of press time, there has been no statement from the governor's office.
Meanwhile, Professor Philips of the BVA has reportedly suggested putting together a survey flight to Maahes, to study the latest unusual events in our heavens. In an effort to "strike while the iron is hot", Philips noted that any such effort should preferably take place within the next two months, while Maahes remains relatively close enough to Bryant. _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

[Global News Agency] - At approximately 2115, Brein local time, remote seismographic sensors registered a shock of quake-level intensity, centered somewhere in or near the community of Grovers Mill, in North Jersey County. Communications with county officials has become disrupted, with some reports suggesting a meteor strike or possibly a freak cloudburst--despite what has been characterized as dramatically milder-than-usual Calm Season weather in the region.
According to our sources in the Legate's Office, the North Jersey Chapter of the Bryant Citizens Militia is dispatching first-responders to the area, to assess the damage and confirm the cause of the shock and communications disruption. GNA will keep you updated as this situation continues to unfold... _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

[Global News Agency] - Breaking News! As of 2200 hours, Brein local time, all communications has been lost with the villages and townships of Cornwallis, Grovers Mill, and Saint Franco, as a result of what the Bryant Citizens Militia Command has been calling "an invasion by unidentified forces". Sketchy reports coming from North Jersey County, where the first incidents took place at around 2120 hours, claim that these invaders using "armless, three-legged BattleMechs, of unknown type, and displaying no identifiable markings". Other reports, initially confirmed by the Office of the Legate, suggest that the invaders are arriving via orbital drop, but using strange landing pods unlike any known drop cocoons deployed by the Houses or Clans of the Inner Sphere.
As of this moment, a state of emergency has been declared for all of Bayonne, Crowley, and North Jersey counties. (Disclaimer: I was unaware this would cost anything. But IMHO it is worth the small investment.)
