I just watched this lol.
I read in the Heavy Gear series nearly a decade ago that they removed fighters from their military forces because laser based AAA made them obsolete.
Now, if something like Star Wars existed, nimble fighters with energy shields that can deflect laser blasts that can carry armament that can penetrate larger ships hulls (torpedoes) then a place could exist. Even then though, manned fighters would cease to exist. Unmanned could maneuver and fight in 3d that would flatten a human. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Small things in space combat would probably be automatic probes loaded with passive sensors and camouflaged like an asteroid. Sending a tight stream of data before being detected and shot down. Anther thing could be a space mine with engines ready for one rapid burn when something comes close enough and some armour to avoid being fried too soon.
Of course that could mean that primary defense would be preempively burning anything that passes certain perimeter, which would lead to attempts to overwhelm the target's defenses by sheer numbers... LRMs FTW _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!
