The first Civ I started piecing together has been the Free Worlds League. I'm still fairly early in the development stage of it, so any input you guys might have would be useful. Things such as Starts Techs, Leader traits, etc. I got a list of 32 planets right from Handbook: House Marik. I plan on having Thomas Marik be one of the leaders. If you can think of another good one, we can always have two or more if wanted.

I'm staying away from Civ specific Units and Buildings for now until the SDK comes out. Once I have something I think is fairly decent, I'll upload it here so you guys can test it out.

As for starting tech, I would hold off of that until you start redesigning the technology tree. Easier that way.

Leader Traits are again abit tough if you have no one to compare against, but you do need to start somewhere. My opinion is that you avoid the Agressive trait on all IS factions, allow the Clans to have that.

My 2 c-bills. The FWL should never have the Spiritual trait because its prone to Civil War. Likewise, I wouldn't use the Organized trait.

Thomas Marik: Industrious/Creative

Thomas managed to pull his nation together into a very Industrious Nation. I think Creative because the FWL has that whole Greek overtone thing going on.

Janos Marik: Creative/Expansive

A name to use but not alot to base traits off of.

I'm afraid i have to disagree with the earlier post. You need all of the clans seperate. Without them there would be very few factions. However if you have all of them you have to many, so i would suggest only using the clans which have played an active part in the IS. so the Falcon's, Wolves, Jaguars, Bears, Vipers, Cats, Sharks, and maybe a few more favorites like the Blood Spirits and Ice Hellions.

Also, i left out the Star League as it isnt as such a faction, more a United Nations (You can guess what im getting at here!) I think we have a World wonder!

For the sake of simplicity, I say we use the present games limits of 18 Civs and 26 Leaders.

I agree that these are must have nations:
Marik
Stiener
Davion
Liao
Kurita
FRR
Clan Jade Falcon
Clan Ghost Bear
Clan Wolf
Clan Smoke Jaguar
Clan Nova Cat
Clan Steel Viper
Clan Diamond Shark

These are possible additions:
Terran Hegemony
Comstar
Mercs

Factions that should only be sub-leaders of other factions:
Word Of Blake
St. Ives
Dragoons
Kell Hounds
Northwind Highlanders
Eridani Light Horse

These should not be used IMHO:
Outworlds Alliance
Perphery States
Any more Clans

I think almost any trait could be used for Clans. Remember, the Warden Clans were definitely not Aggressive in nature (at least to the IS). Many were Spiritual. So there are a lot of possibilities.

I think Vagabond has gotten it off to a pretty good start and has nailed which Nations/Civ s to include right on the head. While I'm at work tomorrow I'll try to sort throug hit all to see what exactly we have and don't have for the basics and see where I can fill in some of the blanks.

Edit: here is what I've come up with today at work:

Kurita:
Theodore Kurita - Organized / Spiritual

Davion:
Hanse Davion - Financial / Expansive
Victor Steiner-Davion - Organized / Industrious

Steiner:
Melissa Steiner - Industrious / Financial
Katherine Steiner-Davion – Expansive / ???

Liao:
Sun Tzu Liao - Creative / ???
Maximillian Liao - Philosophical / Organized

FWL:
Thomas Marik - Creative / Industrious
Janos Marik: Creative / Expansive

FRR:
??? - Creative / Financial

Clan Wolf
Khan Ulric Kerensky – Aggressive / Organized

Clan Jade Falcon
Khan Marthe Pride - Aggressive / Industrious

Clan Ghost Bear
Khan Jorgensen - Aggressive / Creative

Clan Smoke Jaguar ?????
Khan Leo Showers - Aggressive / Philosophical

Clan Nova Cat
Khan Severne Leroux - Aggressive / Spiritual
***I’d submit to Spiritual / Philosophical as well***

Clan Steel Viper
Khan Zalman – Aggressive / Philosophical

Clan Diamond Shark
Khan Ian Hawker - Aggressive / Financial

Comstar:
Jerome Blake – Organized / Financial
Myndo Waterly - ??? / ???
Who ever it was that lead the WOB in the schism - ??? / ???

Terran Hegemony
??? - ??? / ???

Mercenary Review and Bonding Commission
Jamie Woolf - Financial / ???

Capital city/planet Outreach, second one Galaecia (spelling)

Total: 13 Civilizations, 20 Leaders. And Yes the Star League would replace the United Nations as a Wonder. There are still a few holes which need to be filled and there are a couple of duplications (1 set that I see, Steel Vipers and Smoke Jaguars. I have no problem if people want to replace the Aggressive trait for the Warden Clans with Spiritual or not. But I believe by nature all the Clans are aggressive.
