Overview:
The Antlion was an unusual Quad BattleMech; it was purpose-built byStarCorps
Industries for the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns from their plant
on Crofton to fill a tactical indirect fire support role. The introduction of
the Antlion was at least in part a reaction to the proliferation of Anti-Missile
Systems, which rendered other indirect fire systems significantly less effective
after the mid-thirty-first century.
Though this has remained true several requests for a direct fire combat unit were
made by the AFFS. When StarCorps attempted to rework the design they found that
they were unable to produce a variant they were happy with. What they didnt
realize is that several chassies were sent to NAIS for refit and evaluation.
Capabilities:
Relatively slow despite the use of a GM SuperFusion 225 XL, XL Gyro and Small
Cockpit, the Antlion combined nine and a half tons of Light Ferro Fibrous armor
with a Reinforced Structure for survivability, although a great deal of
the Antlion's defense depended on the Bloodhound Active Probe each 'Mech was
equipped with.
The new variant has passed several checks and balances too arrive at this point.
Much of what made the mech unique and special. The engine is the same as is the
cockpit. The XL Gyro though has been replaced with a standard Gyro. This frees up
much needed room in the narrow torso of the 45 ton machine. Replacing the Clan
mech mortars are a reworked weapons suite. 2 new Light Particle Projection Cannons
with paired capacitors comprise the new main weapons. Backing these up are a pair
of standard Clan medium lasers and under the chin are a pair of clan small lasers
which replace the ineffective light machine guns. The remote sensor dispenser
remains, simply because of its usefulness in past missions.
Also addressed was the mobility factor. Though they didn't add any speed to the
mech they were able to add 4 jump jets to the machine. This did cause some heated
debates among the refit crews. Many thought that a targeting computer would be far
more beneficial than jumping ability. This was eventually decided in a simulator
battle scenario with the jumping mech holding a 2 to 1 edge in victories. Lastly
MASC was added to the machine. When used sparingly and in conjunction with the
jump jets it gives the maligned design a new lease on the battlefield.
The biggest worry among AFFS high command and StarCorps is the use ofclan
ferro-fibrous armor. Though plans are being made incase the day arises when they
have to revert back to Inner Sphere armor.
Deployment:
Outclassed in direct combat by many 'Mechs, the Antlion wasn't designed to fight
opponents directly; instead, the Antlion was designed to rain down indirect fire,
preferably from cover some distance away. The Bloodhound Active Probe helped with
this mission profile, but StarCorps also installed a Remote Sensor Dispenser in
the Antlion's left torso, acting as a force multiplier by allowing an Antlion to
seed an area with sensors in anticipation of subsequent fire missions.
Variants:
The Ravage has shipped to only a handful of warriors.

Some of the fluff is for the original design. Which mounts 2 light machine guns and 2 clan mech mortar 4's. This is ment to be the direct fire variant. Its supposed to be able to engage mechs now. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy".
