(Abby is also really good at sneaking and stealth skills, and a solid shot with a small arms, etc.)
Abby's parents were infantry grunts in a reinforced company-sized combined arms Merc Unit, Rupard's Roughriders. Born on a dropship in transit between merc assignments, she grew up around soldiers. Even as a toddler, the unit would find "Pipsqueak" sneaking around the dropship or compound, digging around in places she wasn't supposed to be. While her parents were simple infanty grunts (her mother died in an engagement at the age of 5, her father at age 14), Abby was interested in the mechs of the unit. Colonel Rupard (and the rest of the Roughriders) loved her, gave her basic training, and when the unit was disbanding into retirement, gave her a mech and paid for her to go to Solaris. Abby was a decent Solaris jock, but after almost 2 decades of seeing the serious side of combat, found the spectacle of the games distasteful and returned to the mercenary life.
