As you may or may not know I currently live in West Virginia, but beleive or not I live in a real town, complete with roads and electricity. I have all my own teeth (minus wisdom teeth) and have never slept with a close family member and this it true of all West Virginias I have ever met. We are not hillbillies.
That said, I have recently become interested with a stereotypical West Virginian activity: Moonshining. I just got back from buying all the stuff necessary for building a still, right here in my living room.
No, my wife would not have been impressed with my new hobby, but since she isn't here and I do enjoy self-destructive activites (I gave up on stopping smoking...I'm back up to a pack a day), I say Rock On!
Wish me luck!

Isn't making your own booze legal as long as you don't sell it?

I don't know...but it sure is fun.
I figure in a month or so I'll be holding "revenueers" at bay up in some cabin in the woods. Watch for me on the news!

Yes it is legal (at least for beer and wine), but even if it wasn't I wouldn't pay attention to the law.

There may be some laws based around health and safety involved (home brew stuff can be pretty potent an inconsistent in it's potency), but I have no idea what they would be in Cadet's area.
Good luck, Cadet. If you accidentally find a cheaper alternative to avgas, let me know

It better be...otherwise the Home Brewers Association we had on the University of South Carolina campus would be in a world of trouble...
One of my friends in some of my Mechanical Engineering classes headed the Association...last I heard anyways...they actually had days were they had "open house" type things with free samples and whatnot given out with prizes going to the best tasting, best color, etc....

I saw on 20/20 they're even doing classes now on brewing and mixology because of differences in the alcoholic drinks each country produces. I forgot the offical name they gave it though, but it's real college credits. Anyways, you have to design your own brew and go on a trip to a microbrewry, then you get to try and design and make your own brew. If it's good you get an A _________________ I have the right to remain silent. Anything I say will undoubtedly incriminate me.

I already brew my own beer. I'm just moving on to moonshine.

I'll be happy to when giving my beer won't result in going to a pound-me-in-the-ass-prison for "Corruption of a Minor"
Not that I normally have beer I'm not using.

A word of caution here; DON'T use an automotive radiator or a house radiator as a condenser in your still. When I worked in a mental hospital in North Carolina we had plenty of good ol' boys who were brain damaged from heavy metal poisoning, tin or lead in the radiator. Use a laboratory grade copper coil, available at any lab supply house.
Also, the only difference between 'shine and whiskey or bourbon is a 4-8 year age in a white oak barrel.
