================================================================================================
Overview:
During the First Succession War, the AFFS modified several of their Shadow Hawks to increase
their close-in firepower at the expense of much of their armor to make them into more
effective ambush platforms. Although it could be effective, they still lacked enough of a
punch to take on larger enemies, even in ambush. Knowing this, a slightly modified version,
the SHD-2Dx was trialed.
Capabilities:
Using the Royal model Shadow Hawk as a basis, the autocannon and various missile launchers
were stripped off, along with two heat sinks, freeing enough mass on the standard model
SHD-2D Shadow Hawk to upgrade the design with a type 10 heavy autocannon, and a pair of 4
packs of short range missiles. Knowing that the armor would not withstand much damage, the
ammunition load is relatively light, with around 10 or so shots per weapon. This forces the
pilots of these 'Mechs to strike their foes and retreat as quickly as possible.
Deployment:
Although effective on the ambush, the loss of all of their long range firepower did not sit
well with most pilots, so the design did not become widespread.

It's a modification of the original SHD-2D Shadow Hawk to increase it's short to mid-range firepower. Armor was never its strong suit, so it could pack on more firepower. It was designed for ambushes, not normal fighting.

Since you have those two SRM launchers and wet tissues for armour wouldn't it be better to go all in and remove one of the SRMs to get an AC/20 and one less laser to get a SRM-6 to chew through the missiles faster? _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Seriously considered that, but didn't like the one ton of ammo for the AC (5 shots only), and two SRM-4's chew through one ton of SRM ammo faster than a single SRM-6 chews through 1 ton of ammo.

Yes, but I went for the SRM-6 because I would have lost one of the SRMs to the AC _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Actually, given the light armor, it's not really that bad of an idea...would mean you have nothing to hit with outside of 9 hexes (and I wouldn't use the AC at anything over 6 in all likelihood), but it would be a much more mobile Hunchback that could actually hit harder too...
Just wouldn't be able to take a hit as well.

Yes. Technically the same overal idea as the Hunchback IIC, although it's more of a Solaris last chance machine than a thing I'd field in any military, especially in late Succession wars era these would likely remove themselves due to attrition. Turning a 55 chassis in to an ambush predator for Stingers and Locust. I'm not sure what were the Davions thinking at the time. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!
