Overview:
While the Battle Hawk did not officially arrive on the battlefields of the Inner Sphere
until after the Clan Invasion, the actual design work began back before the
Wolfhound was fielded for the first time. The design fared poorly though, but not due to its
slow speed for its size, nor because of the short ranged nature of its weapons, but because
of a smear campaign by a jealous noble of House Steiner.
Capabilities:
An innovative design for its time, the Black Hawk-105 combined decent, but not spectacular
mobility for a light ‘Mech, and an armament package that could hit harder than some ‘Mechs
twice its size. For these reasons alone, it should have been a success. Combined with 6 tons
of armored plate, this design should have been widely accepted. However, a minor noble felt
slighted when his family’s electronics firm was passed over to supply this new design with
its sensor and communications system.
Acting on his petty jealousies, he hacked into the programming that the prototypes were
given, making the system project sensor ghosts at odd times. Unfortunately, he was a good
enough hacker that this scheme was never discovered, and the management team at TharHes
Industries decided to back the Wolfhound project instead. A couple decades later, the Battle
Hawk’s design was sold to Defiance Industries, who ended up modifying it to the 305 model,
with which it began production.
Deployment:
Having never reached past the prototype stage, the Black Hawk-105 never saw deployment,
except for the two test units. Both of these disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
