I need help from the brain trust. I need help in developing or I need to be supplied with some formula for a project that I am working on. While I hold two 4 year degrees, they are both in social sciences and my math skills are a little weak while fluid dynamics is very complex.
I need 3 formula (maybe less) that allow for the following: take a spherical, cylindrical, and cone shaped object of varying diameter and mass and determine the resistance/friction/compression that object causes as it travels at speed through a static atmospheric density.
As I am sure many have surmised, my project is to simulate atmospheric reentry for simple shapes which will hopefully allow me to calculate the rate of deceleration and max heat created.
Variables that I see:
Shape (sphere, cone - pointy end, and cylinder - flat end)
Size (diameter of object)
Mass
Speed
Atmospheric density
The project is intended to use a level of abstraction, so I don't need a complex solution which I understand is asking a lot given the complexity of fluid dynamics. However, I admit that this currently beyond me and I simply do not have the time to learn all the math and theory to simplify it all in the time frame I am aiming for at this time.
Thank you. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.
