Variants:
The AWS-8HLX (Heavy Laser eXperimental) Awesome was a prototype design created by the Free
World?s League to address its lack of particle cannons and their use on one of its premier
?Mechs. Although other models had partially addressed this with the use of long range
missile racks or multiple heavy lasers, the creation of the binary laser cannon and the
freezer heat sink offered a more viable alternative, while increasing the overall potential
lethality of the design. Replacing the two torso-mounted particle cannons with blazers, and
many of the heat sinks with the prototype freezers enables more definitive one-shot/one-kill
potentialhits from the ?Mech, but does decrease the range. Therefore, the arm-mounted
particle cannon is retained. Even though heat dissipation is increased over the base design,
it is still recommended that pilots practice bracket firing patterns to mitigate the worst
of these issues.
Although a promising design, further advancements in the League?s defense industries soon
relegated it to the annals of history as new improved sources of both particle cannons and
double strength heat sinks came online, and the AWS-8HLX soon dissappeared from the
battlefield.
