The sytsem is very good.
In fact, they have now made an entire RPG (Tribe 8) using the system.
I was in a campaign that went for about six months. It took about two sessions to learn fully. Less time than it took to learn D&D d20..... _________________ Loyalty above all else except honour!

I prefered the original Heavy Gear but II was still fun. _________________ "All it takes for evil to prevail is for good to do nothing."

Sorry, I've only played the computer game. I've heard only good things about the board game, though.

Heavy Gear....I played it a few years ago and have played it recently on the comp. It is easy to learn, or it was for me. One of my friends say me playing it and refered BT to me, and that is how I got into Bt. It is a good game, but I think BT is better.

It was alright, nothing to really rave about. I prefer Classic BT to pretty much any other mecha type game, though I do play Dungeons and Dragons.

Heavy Gear system is actually quite simplistic and easy to pick up but in the boardgame, the Gears are just, Gears or IFVs, they cannot fight tanks unless you have a few to flank it.
So don't go around picking on tanks unless you know what ya doing.
Interesting enough though is the Durasheet (fluff reasons) plating. With a armor rating of 30, its equal to 180mm of Durasheet or 900 mm of RHA / Armor grade steel. And Durasheet weighs 1/100 of steel's weight.
Interesting.

I've played the board game once. It seemed... OK, however, I believe I prefer CBT over HG by a wide margin.
