================================================================================================
Capabilities:
The Gendarme GE-1V would be developed shortly after the release of the GE-1D. This variant
would be produced due to the intense competition and demand for the domestically produced
Clan-Spec. ER PPC within Federation territory. Feeling the pinch of a limited supply chain
Kallon would opt to eschew importing a Clan replacement to make up for the squeeze. Instead,
to keep all supply chains within the realm, they would remove the ER PPC, the RAC2, and the
streak 6, along with two heat sinks and a half-ton of armor. This would be replaced with a
LB-10X in the right arm, with 1 ton each of cluster and solid shot, a Snub-Nose PPC in the
left torso, and a MML 5 supplied with 3 tons of ammo in the right torso. Interestingly more
GE-1V then GE-1D variants would be produced in the initial runs of the Gendarme series.

I like the design at first glance. However, I'd drop 1t MML ammo (it feels over ammo'd) for a Artemis IV FCS to make that launcher even more effective.

However, I am curious at the use of reinforced structure combined with the use of an XL engine. This feels contradictory. Why not a standard structure, a LFE engine, and 3 tons of ELINT/AMS equipment?

That was actually the original set up tbh, but I had a friend.... friendly acquaintance(?) Who brought up a good point, there are a lot of good standard soldier mechs out there so why not push for something a little more unorthodox.

The idea is for the reinforced structure to synergize with and eliminate the crit-weakness of the Reflective armor, but it can also mask the warts of an IS XL engine (kinda, its not perfect but I thought it was an interesting way to address both issues). Do you think it works?

I'll consider the art IV for sure. I was thinking this would be a set up for Tandem-Charges SRM's which half-the ammo per ton, but what do you think if it was fitted with Tandam-Charge, would you still go for Art IV?

Thanks for the questions/inputs

If you are playing with advanced rules, you can still get away with 2t of ammo. Unless you are planing a extend campaign unit that is often away from its supply lines, most units do not need more than 2 minutes of munitions (12 turns). Given the single launcher is playing double duty the at least a quarter to half of the LRM will get used putting you at around 16 to 22 turns even with Tandem-Charge. That said, it comes down to intent of design. Carrying 2t standard warheads and a 3rd ton of specialty (inferno, smoke, etc) can be tactically useful in its flexibility. In the end, my feedback was based on the average game style of skirmish were such factors don't matter.

As for the reinforced, I like the way your friend thinks. Its not a bad design concept but usually people use reinforced to zombie the mech. I have always felt reinforced was to heavy for its benefits; should be 1.5x heavier imho or maybe a -2 crit chance. That being said, you are effectively gaining 15 pts of side torso structure for 1 ton of weight but maintaining the fragility of a tactical kill if your side torso gets shot off. You saved effectively t ton of weight on the XL after paying for reinforced. Hmmmm. You know what. I like it. Great fluff and fits in the universe as a non-optimal mech.

Glad you approve. I did think long and hard about the art IV. I think that would be the move with a mml 7 or higher, but (IMO) I think you get might more value out of the extra ton of ammo with the mml 5, due to the specialist ammo selections open to the player. I could do 2 tons of Tandem charge or 1 ton of Tandem and 1 of Inferno, and then pair the mech with a CRB-54. I think its a close call (looking at the cluster table) but I think that the increased tactical flexibility is the move to make in this instance. However I'm probably going to marinate on the idea a bit, maybe test them both out in mega-mek and see how things pan out.

appreciate the input
