Overview:
A full sized assault omnimech. Constructed with rugged, easy to procure, parts and
materials and carrying nearly half it's weight in pod space you would expect such a mech to
fill the front line ranks of its Star Nation. And you'd be wrong. The Drudge is used as a
second line unit, deemed too fragile for front line duty. Which begs the question, what are
actual front line units expected to survive?
Capabilities:
At 100 tons the Drudge is intended as an "inexpensive" support unit capable of following in
close proximity to front line mechs to augment the Battle lines firepower. In addition it
is also intended to be easy enough to produce that it would allow "wide" strategies and fill
defensive depth.
To fulfill the goals of inexpensive construction and maintenance basic materials were
largely used. Standard structure and armor are cheaper to produce and, perhaps more
important, repair. A standard engine also keeps costs down, but at a cost in payload and
salvage-ability. The only semi advanced structural component is an XL gyro which offers a
small bit of weight savings. The Armor coverage is slightly lighter on the legs then is
considered the norm, but once again gains the Drudge a bit of payload. In general that
saved tonnage allows the Drudge to match any other mech design of similar concept gun for
gun, but then have a little extra as well. For example TAG AND a C3 slave. Or more medium
lasers. That's popular too.
Variants:
As an Omnimech, with reasonable spare tonnage and cavernous pod bays, there are a
considerable number of potential configurations possible. To date most common ones have
been of a "boat" nature. While effective, there has been building preasure to expand the
Drudge's repertoire so it can operate more effectively in small unit actions. We shall see
what developes.
