Overview:
As time has marched on, many of the antique units from backwater worlds of the Inner Sphere
have been left with machines that are no longer capable of challenging even the cheapest of
the newer units constructed or designed during the Clan Invasion. As such, many companies
have set out to provide refit kits that can be utilized with very little maintenance
infrastructure. Defiance Industries was one such company that sub-contracted with Kincaid
Defiance Industries to provide a kit for its Clint series of battlemech.
Capabilities:
Defiance Industries started by replacing the tried and true yet bulky and ammo dependent
Armstrong Autocannon/5 with a new Defiance 1002 Light Particle Project Cannon. In addition,
Defiance Industries replaced the Martell Medium Lasers with Defiance Model XII Extend-Range
Medium Lasers. Lastly, Defiance Industries to help counter the massive heat build up of the
new weapons package worked with Kincaid Defiance Industries to use three of the companies
newly refined double-strength heat sinks.
Kincaid Defiance Industries since 3026 has been working to produce a viable version of the
double-strength heat sink prototyped by the Federated Sun before the recovery of the Helm
core; with decreased funding due to the proliferation of recovered Star League double heat
sink, KDI has slowly spent decades using blue print fragments from Age of War prototype
double heat sinks as well as their experience with the Davion prototypes to develop a viable
heat sink that doesn't require corrosive and toxic materials while maintaining compatibility
with single heat sinks. Unlike Star League double heat sinks which are intended to entirely
replace a units cooling system, KDI's double-strength heat sinks are meant to work with and
supplement a unit's existing cooling system; allowing them to be utilized expressly for
low-complexity refit kits such as those planned by Defiance Industries for the Clint. Their
inclusion allows the Clint refit to fire a third of its weapons while jumping or all of its
weapons while walking without heat build up.
Finally, Defiance Industries includes an additional 3 tons of armor plating in the refit kit
resulting in an impressive 7.5 tons of Durallex Medium armor plating.
Deployment:
Defiance Industries plans to ramp up the production and delivery of the Clint CLNT-2-3Tv
refit kit to field units across the Inner Sphere as well developing additional kits for sale
for other aged units.
