Overview:
The Ceraptor is the slowest combat functional LAM kept in inventory. It's also the most
widely used. While faster LAMs can be utilized, they do so with a sharp decline in combat
power projection. Sometimes it's better to say "fast enough" and focus on bringing more
guns to the fight.
Capabilities:
The model Zero Ceraptor is a preproduction prototype. It was built in limited numbers as a
proof of concept and to insure a lack of bugs in in the frame. As such the internal layout
and thrust balance is considerably simpler then subsequent models which adopted an off axis
vector of thrust. The model zero also had a slightly less cramped internal layout thanks to
its compact gyro. That space was then converted to Bomb Bays. Tactically this would be of
limited use in actual combat (unless the boffins claim to be able to carry Arrow IVs in each
bay turn out to be true.) After all, a dedicated fighter can already ferry in bombs and
have decent weapon tonnage remaining. For testing purposes it was a successful platform,
allowing a lot of data on bomb functionality to be collected in short order. Still in the
end the variant was considered to be an underpreforming entry to LAM doctrine and was
shelved for designs with improved sustained combat potential.
Deployment:
There are those who point out that while this is a terrible LAM. It's actually an amazing
tactical bomber. It can carry bombs equivalent to an 80 ton fighter. And that 80 ton
fighter would somehow have to be able to pull 7gs of acceleration, unloaded, to keep up with
the Cerapter-Zero. To put it simply, that's not possible. The proposal exists to strip the
token lasers for extra fuel. This would actually give the Ceraptor the legs needed to
function with aerospace forces in ground support rolls.
Variants:
So many. While the CPT-0 was a good test bed, it ultimately paved the way for a more
technically difficult model with improved weapons tonnage. 20 tons worth. Which means
every Bolo, Sun Crusher, and Half Drudge configuration suddenly became a viable option for a
Ceraptor variant.
