Overview:
“Looking to the past to protect the future” became the slogan for reintroducing the
Swordsman BattleMech to the AFFS in the waning days of the Dark Age and the start of the
IlClan era. A design not seen in centuries, and then mostly on the losing side of the Davion
Civil War, many questioned bringing the design back, especially as the realm now had so many
other medium BattleMech designs of similar mass and capabilities. Still, some pushed for it,
so it began rolling out of the factories.
And began claiming fame and glory on the many battlefields in which the Federated Suns found
itself participating.
Capabilities:
The primary desire amongst those bringing the design back would be that it would be a
BattleMech that would showcase the realm. “Built at home for home defense” was another
prevalent slogan found in the factories producing the design. Thus it showcases technologies
from around the realm. Armed with X-Pulse lasers in the arms, a mid-range multi-missile
launcher fed by two tons of ammo in an advanced CASE protected ammunition bay, and a light
type 5 autocannon also fed by two tons of ammunitions in another advanced CASE munitions
bay, the machine is capable of combat at most ranges, and is able to tailor its ammunition
load to meet the demands of any particular battlefield.
Although not equipped with the maximum armor load, it is still decently armored for its
size, and its speed and mobility were improved by use of an enlarged extra-light engine of
clan-type technology, but built on the home soil. A supercharger allows for brief bursts of
speeds over 100 kph when the situation demands, and jump jets allow the new Swordsman to
leap up to 150 meters at a time.
Deployment:
Most of the new Swordsman BattleMechs have seen deployment in the Draconis March, as must
have thus far been produced there, but it has also begun shipment to units in the other
Marches as well.
