Overview:
"Its not a George Forman, the weapons are wrong.
It's not a Ram, its not intended to ram.
Not an Eviscerator, probably. Terror Bird focuses on claws. And the Anji hasn't seen
service in decades. Given that we have an abundance of melee mechs already, why do we need
another one?
Because you were bored, and wanted to try something... I miss the days before
fabricators... now it seems like every half baked idea sees the light of day."
Capabilities:
The Canister started with the bad idea, what if we packed a bunch of M-Pods onto a mech.
Since Mpods are very short ranged weapons, it only made sense to utilize a melee focused
mech. 95 tons was chosen based on a limited availability of pilots on that front, and a
desire to carry enough dakka to shatter any single target in excessivly short order. The
other weapons are a completely standard mix of pulse lasers for main firepower and small to
medium lasers to manage the TSM. ECM rounds out the payload as a general precaution.
Deployment:
Operational use succeeded. A pair of Canisters were deployed in conjunction with
annihilator C's. The Plan was to use the Annihilators to open holes in the opposing forces
armor for the Canisters to exploit with predjudice. What actually happened was a pair of
tanks with a combined 12 LRM-20s on top of a wooded hill supported by twin Goliaths.
With the presumption that the opposing force would be weak at point blank range, the
Canisters activated their TSM and advanced at flank speed. One goliath attempted to
intercept, but was forced to seek cover given the weight of fire bearing down on it. It was
engaged in passing by the Canisters with their lasers, while the Annihilators also focused
on it as the easier target. The LRMs removed large chunks of the Canisters armor. Finally
closing to close range the Canisters discoved vitally important intel. Clan LRM-20s, on
turrets. One Canister was effectivly stripped of armor and was begining to lose components.
Still standing though. Expecting to not survive another salvo, that mech advanced to point
blank range and alpha striked. Just barely the ferro-lamellor armor was stripped by laser
fire, allowing the M-Pods to finish it. Meanwhile the annihilators wrecked the forward
deployed goliath. The remaining Canister moved in to deal with the surviving Goliath,
unleashing its M-pod payload with approximately 36% effect on target. Multiple internal
locations were damaged repeatedly, but failed to cause catastrophic equipment failure.
Meanwhile that Canister absorbed another round of LRM fire reducing its armor coverage.
This didnt matter much as the Annihilators advanced into the LRM carrier's short range and
ended it with concentrated fire. The remaining Goliath surrendered after that.
Variants:
Lessons learned from combat experience. Chaff pods would be nice. Unfortunately the major
system that could easily be swapped out is the M-Pods. Loss of that system would degrade
the desired alpha strike potential that makes the Canister a unit to be highly concerned
about.
A Supercharger is also a desired peice of equipment, with the ECM being the obvious area to
trade out, but likely at the cost of a medium laser too. That could be worked around.
Another desired attribute is the inclusion of arm actuators for punching power. A possible
solution here is to authorized more advanced construction materials to free up space.
Improved armor is desired, but no obvious solutions are on the horizon without a full
rework.
