Well, I just wanted to check in quickly here and let you all know that I'm still alive after my two months away! (You all remember who I am right? )

Anyhow, for those of you who don't remember I've been away with the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, doing work up training for a March 2003 deployment to Bosnia.

Well, I arrived in Winnipeg back in October in order to fill the role of an Infantry Section 2IC (second in command). We spent one week in Winnipeg before flying to Ft. Knox Kentucky, (I hope I spelled that right!) Once in KY, we deploy right out into the field doing Infantry stuff, running and shooting, (lots of shooting - everything from the Canadian version of the M-16, to machine guns, anti-tank rockets, and M203 grenade launchers!). At the end of the first week we're doing a forced march with heavy pack back into camp at about 4am. After 11km, with only 500m to go I ended up stepping funny on a rock, spraining my left ankle. I was very mad because I had had to see a doctor who told me I'd be out for atleast three days. So, I did the three days while the rest of the company went back out into the field. When my time was up, I went back out to join my section, even though my ankle was still swollen and sore, and ended up spraining my other ankle because of it! So, I get sent back into camp with two sprained ankles, (which were both bruised and swollen like two NERF footballs with toes! ). Two days later, (although I was told to take three weeks off) I went back out into the field for some live fire attacks, because I'm told that if I don't complete them I'm going to be cut from the Company. I end up doing the attacks, before spraining my ankle again at the end of the last one.

So, due to my injury I'm moved out of the Platoon and into Company HQ where I take over as a section commander for the enemy force. I end up doing a few more days in the field leading a section, even though I'm supposed to stay off my feet... (gotta love the Army, they order you to stay off your feet, but to lead these troops into battle!)

Well, we come back to Winnipeg after a month in KY and are greeted by extremely cold weather (-30 Celcius!). I've been freezing my butt off for the last two weeks, but I've been told now that I'm being moved to the Multi-National Brigade HQ, in Banja Luka as a driver, and that I get to complete my pre-training in my home city! YAY!!

Anyhow, I'm just stopping by to say hi, and I'm going to be beck for a while! I'm just starting three weeks of Christmas Leave! YAY again!

Alexander (Weary world traveller!)

Welcome Home Tanker!!!

It's like that in the Navy as well. If you break your leg, the put a cast on it, give you some Motrim and tell you to get back to work. Gotta love it....

We are relieved that you came back Bullet Holed Challanged ...
