Probably should have an ATM variant with very minimal laser backup.

Good idea, I will work one up next week.

Which size ATM do you think they would go with?

I am thinking they would drop the ER Large Laser completely and just have the ER medium or a MPL for backup, so in that case I would say an ATM 9 or even 12. Probably the 9 with plenty of ammo as I don't remember all the stats of the ATMs off the top of my head.

The machine is fine, but still raises the question:
Why waste a fine XL engine on a second-line mech?

Just because it is Omni does not make it second line these days for the clans, many of them are hard pressed to fill all the frontline galaxies with Omnis.

The thing with most IICs is that they are cheap because they were created to be second-line mechs. If you'll look, almost all the IIC jobs were designed before the Clans even invaded; the Valkyrie IIC would have to be one of them.

In fact, some IICs and other Second-lines for whatever reason are so old (or for other similar reasons) that they aren't even being made anymore and are often older than their pilots. For instance, the Highlander IICs are simply refit pre-Exodus Highlanders because there is no factory. The Ghost Bear Kodiak and Grizzly both went out of production almost a hundred years before they first showed up in the IS.

Given this, I would doubt that it would be first in line to recieve an XL. However, if this was, by the fluff, an updated version of the Valkyrie IIC then I would believe it. Especially if you go with the ATM system.

My suggestion is that you should drop the XL, and the AMS. Trade out the ER Large for two more ER mediums and you'll have it.

sounds like great ideas there Kraken, except for a flaw in your thinking. these are the clans not the IS, to the clans XLs are a dime a dozen. they have capability and refinement to produce these engines more effecently then the IS.

thats why, ALOT of IICs carry XLs, FF, and ES. the only thing they don't are the modular pods. so it having an XL is probly not uncommon or hard to do. and certainly at the size engine it carries, 210s are not exactly in demand for omni mechs.

now, IMHO it would be better if you dropped the ER LL, upgraded the LRM to a 20, added Artimes IV, drop a heat sink, add ammo, then add LBAP.

thou i don't see why you would upgrade the speed thou, why go from 5/8/5 to 6/9/6? you don't get much of a boost for the increased weight and sudo-cost.

Remember the Ha-Otoko?

The Nova Cats have effectively integrated with the DCMS. The Ghost Bears are starting to integrate with the FRR. Wolf-In-Exhile is working with the IS almost as much as Wolf's Dragoons are. The budget, downgraded one would make sense as it could, with little effort, be included in with IS forces and possibly even accept IS replacement parts. Besides, for what were supposed to be the older of the older IICs and Pre-Oni designs I don't recall seeing too many XLs.

You forget there are about what 9-10 other clans beyond the ones sitting in the IS...this could something they did. And even with the IS Clans...the XL engine is a common item not a rare bird as it is to the IS.

Most of them don`t like to waste resources on something that should be cheap, though.

I`d have an easier time accepting this machine as a one-of-a-kind Inner Sphere refit of a standard Valkyrie, using captured Clan tech.
