From Rick Raisley on the heavymetalpro forum:

Just got my copy of the new CBT Mini Rulebook, and went straight to my full page ad therein. MY URL IS WRONG!! They put HEAVYMETAL.COM instead of HEAVYMETALPRO.COM, which means anyone going there will end up at an R-rated web site, no make that an XXX For Adults Only (per some of the articles) web site, rather than the HMPro site! I wondered why I didn't see an increase in web traffic with the book out. This is going to hurt my business, far more than it would help. Especially if a parent oversees his son or daughter going there to get information on HM software, and instead sees the stuff they have.
The text for the ad, which was sent to me, had the URL correct, so it must have gotten modified during art work. A dark day for HM software, I'm afraid, and especially when my business could really use a boost, this may instead finish it off. If was a big company with lawyers, I could probably get rich off of this, but with it just being me, guess I just get screwed. A very bad day indeed.... |

A message about this was posted on the CBT forum that has been locked.
For all that Rick has done for Battletech I hope that they take care of him on this issue.

Are there a lot of people buying the book who don't already know of HMP? I would think he's already got a huge following in the BTech fanbase, the people who are most likely to buy the mini rulebook. I suppose CBT coould put his banner up huge on their frontpage. He's already in all the newest TROs and Reinforcement sheets, right?

The problem is that the site this incorrect URL goes to is the site for Heavymetal magazine, offering R and XXX rated stuff for sale. Rick is concerned with how many kids might wind up there because of this screw-up, not to mention the potential damage to his business, he was expecting sales to go up from the ad and it didn't happen. _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson

I doubt that very much. I don't know the sales of the mini book, but they were talking about initial production of 5,000 to 10,000 for the new boxed set, and that kind of exposure would be fantastic! If a small fraction bought programs, it would multiple my total sales, well, by a lot!
This isn't exactly a high production business for me, unfortunately.

LOL. Sorry Rick, but that's funny as heck. It reminds of the time when kids would go to www.zelda.com looking for their favorite Nintendo hero and instead find a huge porn site. Hopefully FanPro will get their act together for future releases.

Judging from the reaction to the miniture rulebook he may not be hurting that much.
It is most unfortunate, especially where the younger generation is concerned. It would be in FanPro's best interest to correct the mistake post haste.

From my reading on the Classic BattleTech website. From what I have read many are less than pleased with their purchase or have looked at the book on the store shelves and replaced it in favor of something else, like say minis.

| But dont forget that the people you are taking about are hard-core CBT fans which already have a lot of rolesbooks about CBT. As these guys sureleyx already have a, more or less legal, copy of Ricks HP+ program, the chances that these guys will buy it now are NIL
