Howdy all!
Old Dog, still alive (Despite rumors), but terribly idle off on teh side.
I see the place is still up, but Mordel's done quite a few revisions from when I was last around! Real pretty, I must say.
So, while I settle in to my new house and start getting my online life back, give me some downloads, gang. What's new? Anyone married? LIl' Mechwarriors? New jobs? How goes life in general?
How has Click-a-mech gone down in your neck of teh woods? Any old timers still playing the non-click version? Anyone doing anything neat? I see that the Phoenix Project has progressed nicely, and I look forward to seeing how it'll pan out. I still have my *own* thoughts, but, hey, you know O.D., always tinkering.
Anyway, thought I'd drop in and say hi. Missed you guys!

Welcome back ya Old Dog. It has been to long. I won't spoil anything anyone else has to say, but I moved to Virginia at the Begining of the year, after a brief six month stint in Newport, RI. Unfortunately, there are not many people near me to play Classic battleTech or any for of BTech, or any other RPG for that matter. Other than that all is good with me. Very busy with work and all but good none the less.
Again welcome back.

Old Dog, you ancient hound! Long time, no see! How ya been?
Anyways...many, many things have been happening on all fronts...some of which can't be spoken of just yet (durn NDA)...
Let's see...MWDA and the rest have been off and on in my area...I've spent far too much money on it myself (anyone need a Swordsworn Vulture or 3? I have 5 now), but it's been fun collecting it since it's now even harder to get more of the new Classic stuff in my neighborhood (closest store that regularly got the stuff had to close and move even further north because mall rent went up...guess I'll have to order my minis directly from Iron Winds now), but I can still get MechWarrior boosters around here, even in my hometown...and I don't care what anyone says...this MWDA Atlas I have sitting on my desk here looks pretty durn cool and menacing...you should see it in dim light (such as moonlight through the window...Nnnnnaaaaaassssssttttyyyyyy........)
As for new stuff on the CBT front, be sure to check out the Classic BattleTech Companion...mostly RPG stuff, but some excellent, IMnsHO, construction rules for battle armor are in there, as are essays on the creation and operation of 'Mechs and battle armor...coming soon, you'll have the rules for conventional infantry platoon construction, and the Project Phoenix TRO is due out this summer...the Covert Ops Handbook (IIRC) has been moved back to December to ensure the rest stay on schedule...you've probably also heard about Lwayers, Guns and Money, where you can decide the fate of 2 mercenary units, which will then have full page writeups in two sourcebooks (the FM: Mercenary Revised and another that escapes me at the moment), and for those that perform exceptionally well, you might even get your name placed among the unit listings...
Trial of Retribution, an AT2 game went over extremely well, and the results will be posted in FM: Updates, due out in a few weeks...let's just say that there are 15 fewer WarShips between the fleets of the Ghost Bears and Nova Cats...
The WoB Jihad is going to kick off soon (probably next year), and things will turn VERY messy for everyone....we already know that each of the capital worlds of the Great Houses will be hit (well, at least New Avalon, Luthien (which has to be abandoned for several years) and Tharkad (where all contact is lost...we don't know what's happening there)...no mention, to my recollection, of Sian or Atreus)...and that there was a "Scouring of Tamar", the Crusader Wolves' homeworld in the Sphere...
Also, you might want to check out the 3130 map of the Inner Sphere in the Miniatures handbook...many interesting times are ahead of us...btw...remind me...are you a fan of the Taurian Concordant or the FWL? If so...my apologies...I already know you should have a few choice words to say about the Capellan Confederation's status...
Oh, and as for new jobs, well, in addition to being a moderator of the Classic BattleTech message board, I'm also a quality engineer for ArvinMeritor, one of the top 500 companies in the US, and the number one producer of drivelines for heavy vehicle systems in North America...finally putting some of my schooling to work...
I'll just let you gnaw on those bones for a while, and come back with more later...

First Cadet, then the almighty Old Dog appears, need I more proof that the Final Nights are near?
Welcome back, Old Dog, we missed you. there's much we have to talk about.
>How has Click-a-mech gone down in your neck of teh woods?
Click-a-what?
>Any old timers still playing the non-click version?
With all the Battletech stuff I have, I could be gaming for years. In fact, I play Battletech a lot now, easier to set up and needs fewer players to play. I've got new recruits into the game.
> Anyone doing anything neat?
I could do, if I had the time :\

Life is pretty good here in CA. I am graduating next month and just about to finish my Masters thesis. I have a job lined up for when I get out of school. I will be a systems engineer for Lockheed Martin.

Its seems pretty big here. MWDA is even sold in book stores and software stores. I have not gotten into it, because I am not big on the collectible idea and I don't like how they made the technology so primitive (robots that run around and punch each other, puh-leeaasee).
Nice to see you around OD.

Hi there Old Dog. I've already said hello in different area, but let me just sum up. I'm one of the newer guys around here, and I've stuck around and do a fair bit of posting, when it strikes me. I've read some of your old posts, and I am honored to meet you. Perhaps I could buy you a drink?
In my neighborhood, MW:DA is around, but it wasn't able to hold my interest (Anybody want about 12 minis?). BattleTech remains consistent, though uncommon, my main opponents being my family members. I should head down to the game store and see what night BattleTech night is.
Am I doing anything neat? Wish I could say I was. *chuckle*

Welcome back OD. Nothing really new and interested in my front. You know, Sir Henry was not the only one wondering if something horrible had befallen the hound of this bar.

Well, howdy there!
Personally, I've been running myself ragged. Working full time, graduate school full time (I get my Master's this August and I start on my PhD two weeks later), and the drama called life and full time and a half.
I occasionally get to think about Battletech though, and then life is good for a few moments
Clickytech doesn't strike my fancy, but it exists here in a limited sense, not too far behind CBT (which is also existing in a very limited sense).
So tell us more about your travels, o' venerable canine! Smelled any interesting smells?

You do realize almost everyone will consider you overqualified for just about any job that you have the experience for, or lacking in experience otherwise, right?
You'll have to have some connections after you get down with that...

Not a problem. There is a constant shortage of Criminal Justice professors. Heck, I could teach with just the Masters, but with the PhD I get more options (plus I get to teach graduate students also). If for some reason teaching doesn't work out, I can always go to the Feds. A Master's degree starts you out as a GS-9 in the uniformed division of the Secret Service, and they are hurting for people right now. Lots of federal jobs available that I can go in to. Or I can go private and do security consulting and such (this is where my business degree and pilot license come in particularly handy), or I can do work as a researcher (field or otherwise) for any number of think tanks that focus on social control policy and such. Or I can go international and work in an advisory capacity in any number of countries that are trying to modernize and professionalize their criminal justice system. Now worries, I've got plenty of options!
As far as connections go, I'm not doing too badly there, considering my age.

Yeah, the top professor jobs pretty much require a PhD. I can get by with the Masters for a while, but the real security comes with the doctorate.

The Secret service??? Are you willing to take a bullet for someone you don't know or even care less for???? Not many are...
You are correct in that we can't get enough criminalists' in this world. Criminals are multipling like rabbits....
