I get to listen to most of his show at work and the big 15 show was pretty good. He had all sorts of top convervatives calling in to say congrats and Paul Shanklin added in all sorts of spoofs of top liberals calling in too, lol. And a lot of his long-time regular callers called in to say nice stuff too.
I think maybe the best part of the show was when his old boss, his first producer and the guy who got him on the air and into national syndication called up from where he retired to and they talked about the old days for a while when the show was getting started and began to hit the big time.
Rush mentioned an old column he did back then, just a bunch of sentences he threw together because he was having writer's block and couldn't think of a real column to write. They became so well known he got them reprinted and then read them on the air, stuff like "communism is evil, the Soviet Union is evil", the Steelers are the best football team ever" etc. Just a random bunch of sentence he wrote while hoping to get past writer's block. He called them the 35 Truths of Life. On the show today he recalled how people were calling in at the time worried he'd be arrested for saying stuff like that on the air. They really thought that speaking on the air against the liberal line might be illegal because until he came along nowhere in the country could anyone hear a talk show that stood up for conservatives instead of liberals.
It may seem silly to think such a thing might happen here in America. But you know, I remember back when his TV show went on, and some Dems in either the Senate or Congress actually presented a bill that if passed would have banned Rush from the airwaves. Fortunatly the Republicans and even a number of Democrats remembered that little oath they swore when the entered office. The oath of loyalty to that darned inconveinience called the Constitution that keeps getting in the way of what Democrats want.
Back then people like Donahue ruled the airwaves. These days conservative shows are all over the radio waves and Donahue can't keep any ratings worth mentioning even with CNN handing him prime time airplay.
It can be truly amazing to think about how just one man deciding to do it his way instead of someone else's way can become such a powerful political and idealogical force that has changed our country if not the whole world.

Do you have the same "no opinion" of Rush as I have for the French?

| Curious you take the time to post that you have no opinion It would seem to me that would be a waste of time.
Or perhaps you have one but are embarrassed by it

Actually not embarrassed at all. How can one be embarrassed by something that doesn't exist? The only thing about Rush in my world is that he or his opinions do not matter to me in any way shape or form, thus I have no opinion. Simple.
What would precipitate that "indiference" = "waste of time"? I would argue that "indiference" is as valid as a "yes, I like", or "no, I dislike" answer to your post.

Please pare out the stuff that's not needed when you quote posts Mo...thanks.
And there's nothing wrong with indifference on certain subjects...there are lots of things in this world I couldn't care less about.
