So what does everyone prefer?

Guass

Or

ERPPC

I tend to go to the PPC as I hate running out of ammo. And their sheer size is just to dang big for most designs I think. I do still use them but I generally tend to stay away from them.

I lean toward the guass with at least 1.5 tons of ammo per guass. Rare it seems that an engagement will last more than 12 rounds in which I could fire the guass.

Also I play IS Tech Level 2 most so 15 points or the 10 makes it an easy choice.

For fun, try putting 4 guass on an IS mech. See if you can do it.

IS: slight edge with Gauss...

Clan: ER PPC...

But it depends on the heat and other weapons in the design...

I have to agree with Ruger, Clan ERPPC is my weapon of choice.

Although I will use the guass if I want a cool running mech

If there's room I'll take the Gauss on IS mechs, because the IS ER PPC is just not as good a weapon. Higher heat, lower damage than the Gauss.

The reason I'll take the ER PPC for a clanner design: the same damage and less weight, plus clanner DHS. IMO their Gauss is only useful on the heaviest mechs, such as the Behemoth.

depends on mech, clan or is, mechs mission, weapons load, terrain, and supplies.

if its a mech with SHS. guass.

assulter? depends

rear line skirmisher? ppc

if already carrying more then 30 heat, guass.

as u can see, i'm all about.

Not a fair comparison..

An ERPPC generates quite a bit of heat, and in a straight up short term fight, you need to include the HS in this comparison.

The Gauss is ammo dependant and you need to include ammo weight.

ERPPC is 7 tons so you can add 8 double HS to wipe out the extra heat and your total weight is under a normal Gauss rifle and ammo

Gauss 15 tons I would put at least 2 tons for a longer term battle.

So the Question now is::

Would you take an ERPPC and 8 Double HS or would you take a Guass Rifle and 2 tons of ammo?

I like the ERPPCs..

I like the PPC with HS's and 2 ML Rather than the Guass Rifle.... Most of the time...

In short Melee style battles I'll take the GR.

For me, it's really all a matter of the situation.

Guass Rifles have one of the longest ranges in the entire game. In addition, they have almost no heat and only have a one-hex minimum. But they're heavy and take up a good chunk of crit space. If I'm using one on a custom or a scratch-built then it means that I've either got a sniper or a heavy/assault class.

ERPPCs give good range, have no minimum, and do a lot of damage, all with no ammo worries. But the heat is restrictive. Personally, I almost never use them. If I do, then it's for a sniper unit that is going deep behind the lines where ammo may become a concern.

2 hexes is the minimum for both IS and Clan gauss rifles.

I'll usually take a Gauss, since it's got power, range and low heat.

If ammo is a big concern (it's always a small one), I'll take the ERPPC.

If the 'Mech is likely to end up in close combat, the ERPPC is also a better choice, with no minimum.

My taste in weapons is a responce to the tastes of thoughs around me, I can work with anything given to me, but the people I play with use pretty much nothing but laser boats when on campain, wich makes ammo a real issue.

Hurm.........

Interesting. to tell the truth I would prob take the PPC. becouse of the tons/crits are less( not including ammo!) for roughly the same dammage/range.( claned up and ER's) the low heat of the gauss is good but you can always dump heat ( IF you know how to drive) but can't reload, stop the durn thing from going boom,, ect with a gauss. ( also factoring the ton diff. you could put other 'toys' in the extra spaces saved. not somthing addressed yet.) so I vote for the PPC.

Heres the another Q.

Gauss ?
or
AC?

PPC?
or
Lg. laser?

SRM
vs.
LRM
vs
MRM

Just for S's & G's I'll take the AC, Lg.Laser and SRM's ( Unless I run Swarms )
