OVERVIEW

The Victor was still in its infancy when Kerensky left on the Exodus. A few Victors must have left with him, or else some were captured during the Invasion. Either way, the Clans have deployed a heavily modified variant of the ancient 'Mech, one whose enhanced firepower, speed, and armour exceed anything we thought possible. The only Victor currently in service in the Inner Sphere that can match the Clan version’s firepower is the new VTR-10D model, but it must come in to almost half the range of that which the Clan model can fight at in order to do so.

CAPABILITIES

The Victor IIC is similar to the upgraded variant that began to appear throughout the Inner Sphere in 3050. Its primary firepower comes in the form of the massive Gauss Cannon the makes up the bulk of the Mech’s right arm. The Cannon has been equipped with a staggering 24 rounds, allowing the Victor IIC to fight for an extended period without ammunition worries.

The Victor IIC sharply deviates from its Inner Sphere counterpart in its use of an LRM rack. Clan Missile technology has reached such a level that the 15-missile pack is only 75% heavier than the SRM-4 used by the older Victor. Clan science has also eliminated the arming difficulties that are prevalent amongst Inner Sphere launchers, allowing the Victor IIC to engage targets as close as 10 metres with its LRMs.

Like its Inner Sphere cousin, the Victor IIC employs Medium Lasers as back-up weapons. Unlike the older version, however, it features a three-pack of lasers in its left arm. Clan laser technology is so advanced that these three weapons alone are capable of causing more damage than the original’s Pontiac Auto Cannon, and can do so at almost double the range of the heavier Auto Cannon.

The Victor IIC also takes an unusual step by employing MASC for temporary bursts of speed. The external similarities, speed, correlation between weapon load-outs, and jump capability of the Victor IIC has led some observers to believe that the Victor serves as the inspiration for the fearsome Clan Gladiator.

The Victor IIC is slightly susceptible to overheating if the pilot jumps and employs all of his weapons. Even the 11 Clan Double Heat Sinks cannot save the pilot from heat spikes if they are careless during combat.

Finally, the Victor IIC employs the advanced Clan Ferro-Fibrous armour composite materials. This not only allowed the 'Mech to have significantly heavier armour than the original, but also to do so at two tons less of plating.

DEPLOYMENT

The Victor IIC is most common amongst the Ghost Bears. Whether this is simply because of the Bear’s affection for Assault machinery, or further evidence that the Victor gave birth to the Gladiator, we cannot determine. Clan Jade Falcon also uses some Victor IICs, but we suspect that they may simply be refitted Victors taken from the FCAF during the Clan invasion.

MY BLURB

I have long suspected the Victor inspired the Executioner (or Gladiator, should you be one of those degenerate Inner Sphere barbarians ). They both had heavy engines for their size, are jump-capable, and used slightly stupid weapons systems. The Victor IIC is similar to the Highlander IIC, I know, but there were several practical considerations for this:

1. The original Victor had pretty pathetic weapons. If it was more than 9 hexes away, it couldn’t touch you. If it managed to make it to 9 or less hexes, though, you were going to be in a whole world of hurt. I decided to up the long-range guns. I toyed with the idea of using an Ultra AC/20 (and you can do this if you like; I’ve covered that in the Variants section, below), but in the end, I decided it was better to d a little less damage from a lot further away. This is what influenced me to use LRMs; as I said earlier, for only a little more weight you can more than double the range and damage the SRM rack can do, plus Clan launchers have no Minimum Range like their Inner Sphere shadows. For these reasons I tend to strip out SRM racks on my Clan refits, either for Energy weaponry, or more advanced LRMs. I also resisted the urge to use a Clan ER PPC or pair of Large Pulse Lasers in place of the Gauss.
2. The MASC was installed to provide the bridge across the gap between the Victor and the Executioner. It also has a practical use; engaged every second turn, it allows you to pretend that you are a Timber Wolf. A Targeting Computer and additional Heat Sink may have been a better choice, but during playtesting I was able to use the MASC to move behind faster 'Mechs like the Linebacker and give them something to go ho home with.
3. ER Lasers are a must. Since Joe, the Average Clan ‘MechWarrior, comes with Gunnery 3, Pulse Lasers are not necessary on many Clan designs. The ERs provide better ranged firepower than I could have gotten out of Pulse variants, plus the Victor IIC actually has enough heat sinks to make use of them.

LOCATIONS

Victor IIC
Gauss Cannon with 3 Tons Ammo, CASE (No Lower Arm/Hand Actuators)- Right Arm
3 ER Medium Lasers- Left Arm
LRM-15- Centre Torso
Artemis IV- Head
2 Jump Jets, 3 Tons LRM Ammo, CASE- Right Torso
2 Jump Jets, 4-Slot MASC- Left Torso

(Place Endo Steel and Ferro-Fibrous Criticals in empty slots)

V2
Ultra A/C-20, 2 Tons A/C Ammo, CASE (No Lower Arm/Hand Actuators)- Right Arm
2 ER Medium Lasers- Left Arm
LRM-15- Centre Torso
Artemis IV- Head
2 Jump Jets, 2 Tons A/C Ammo, CASE- Right Torso
2 Jump Jets, 3 Tons LRM Ammo, CASE- Left Torso
1 Double Heat Sink- Each Leg

BV (Victor IIC): 2,625
BV (V2): 2,314

Ouch. The base model is worth more than the Dire Wolf Widowmaker and the V2 is worth only slightly less than the Kodiak. Just a tad expensive.
