BattleTech Vehicle Technical Readout
VALIDATED

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
This unit is a total oddity which even we cannot explain. There are reports
coming in from our agents in the Prehiphery that this unit has just emerged in
the testing phase.

Quite frankly- we have no idea how to classify this vehicle.

At first glance, we want to say that this unit is a light-end fire support
unit that carries its own infantry complement. Although risky without
something to protect the ammunition, this concept has been done before with
the Goblin infantry carrier. Some simply assumed that, like the Maxim, it was
an infantry carrier with an abnormally powerful weapons loadout.

When we saw how much in the way of infantry that this unit can carry, all
those theories were immediately blown away. As near as can be figured, a full
six tons of infantry can fit inside this boxy platform. Not battle armor
(although it could possibly fit them), not cargo, not anything else. Infantry.

Currently, we do not have an official name of this unit. As such, until
further notice this unit will be given the designator "Thornbush" until we can
find out what the official name is.

==Capabilities:==
Of note is the possibility that the six tons of infantry space could possibly
be converted to ammo bins for the LRM 20 rack, as well as slightly thicker
armor. If so, then this will be a ranged unit to contend with.

==Variants:==
It's possible that the turret could be replaced with other weapons. At ten
tons, the LRM 20 rack provides ample space for other weapons.

Review:

Looks very interesting and I like the space for lots of people( I have lots to put in) and the movement is 6 of one half dozen of another. Just don't like the LRM 20. I think you get better econmy from an LRM15( If you are gonna use LRM's) most APC's need direct fire weapons to help them supres anything that might hurt the folks wanting out and I don't belive LRM's are the answer to that. perhaps a LG laser backed by some smalls would be better to keep the bad guys from mowing down the good guys as they unlimber from this hot rod lincon.

2.25 ( out of 5)

It all depends on what they intend to use it for. It carries infantry. The LRM is a support weapon, so this unit may be part of a larger combined-arms effort. Arrive to the battlefield, dismount infantry and start lobbing LRMs in support of your mechs.

I would probably replace the 20-rack with a 15 and some MGs in case there's hostile infantry about.

Truthfully, I created this unit as a concept vehicle. Like I said in the text, there aren't that many infantry carriers who have any decent firepower. And IIRC, the average unit also only carries at most 3 tons of troops. I was trying to see if I do something about both situations on the same chassis.

I honestly was envisioning it to where one of the platoons would stay back and provide a garrison for the unit while the other one either swept for targets or actively patroled.

I do admit tho that there might be a better system than the LRM-20. I'm thinking now that trading it out for 4 LRM 5s and two more tons of ammo might be a better idea.

Sticking with the thoughts on the LRM-20 vs. 4 LRM-5 I think that might be a better idea thay can be fired at multi targets ( won't need the multi target mod since you could have 4 gunners. After all you stuffed enough people in to this.) or combine for a single "LRM-20" ( plus the ammo.)

This design is interesting, and reminds me of a time in the past when I asked for infantry carriers that would carry large numbers of men. However, the speed is a bit iffy. Not for a support unit perheps, but for a transport I prefer at least 5/8. Maybe a speed variant?
