After 10 years I've quit smoking for more than a month now (34 days to be precise)

I can say I'm free from the chemical addiction, and I don't really feel any pyschological dependence...except when a pretty girl asks me for a light, *sigh*, after all I was always smoke very little (less than 5 cigs/day)

That all being said, I feel like shit, I'm stressed, frustrated, anxious, and prone to fits of rage. I miss the sedative effects of nicotine and I'm thinking that perhaps smoking was not that bad considering the alternatives. I understand now why I smoked in the first place.

Die from lung cancer, or get an ulcer or a stroke, that seems to be the choice.

Can anybody remind me why I shoud continue quitting? I'm feeling like smoking again because it made me feel better or at least cope with stress.

The alternative is drink, and I'm very wary with that since I'd be drunk all day.

Just remember Vamp, nobody likes a quitter!

Seriously though, sometimes you have to look at your vices and choose the lesser of the evils. If you only smoked a few a day, and it helped you out with the stresses of normal life, then, really, thats not too bad. And if the only alternative for you is drinking, then, maybe you should really think about a puff every now and again.

I know you wanted someone to say that you shouldn't pick up the cancer sticks again, but, honestly, we're all going to die one day, you might as well be prepared for your particular fate. Besides, five smokes a day is probably less harmful than standing on a busy street corner during rush hour traffic.

Because having a heart attack is painful but either kills you outright or is over with no pain till the next one.

Cancer is slow, painful, like being cruicified, but not as fast or happy. And usually you're in pain for a while, unless you're lucky and get a super painful bad one which will kill you in a month after eating your bones, nerves, lungs, etc.

I quit smoking when I reached 30 cigarrettes per work day (OK, nightshift). It was actually starting to feel bad instead of good. Whatever you do, keep cool. Cold turkey is the best way to quit.

Benefits: more money to spend on my hobbies, like RPGs and music. My breath doesn't smell bad anymore. My heart beats a lot slower than it used to. And, as an added benefit, I get less horrific hangovers from partying since my liver is dealing only with alcohol

Perhaps the question here Vamp is not whether you should start smoking again but what you can do to get rid of the extra stress in your life. Perhaps you should be looking to the source instead of a to a relief, quiaff?

stress.... well thats why I play 'tech. Keeps me from killing my children.......

Besides I got "addicted' to smoking when I began my drinking, and well they seem to go hand in hand. I know its not good for me but with so many other more dangerous things in this wonderful world we live in I figure it is low priority for me to be worrying about something so minor.,

JadeDragon If I could get rid of the stress, I wouldn't need smoking? quiaff?

Alexander, thanks for your words, it had more effect on me than the "smoking is bad!" rote answer. It helped me do a clear costs/benefits decision.

I now have made it to 40 days without smoking, and since I''m going to break my previous record it would be wasting the effort if I quit quitting now.

No doubt, I'd feel better smoking , if I had never smoked, I'd pick the habit right now.

Unfortunately since the damage is cumulative and I've been smoking for many years, I must quit now while the damage is not yet irrepairable.

I have to quit someday, so better do it now while I am still ahead. It's a long term investment, even if I'm not seeing any short term benefits.

Aff, though your use of contractions is repulsive.

I have no idea what the cause or probably highly more likely the causeS of stress are in your life. If you could eliminate or reduce some or all of them then you should reduce your need for smoking. At least in theory anyway.

It sounds to me like you are logically thinking this through and have a good handle on it form you last post. So hang in there.

Forty Days Smoke Free, dare I say three cheers for Vamp?!?

Outstanding, gppd job. Does help in the long run but here are some reasons.

1) Quit supporting US policy since you would not be smoking American Tobacco thus taxes to the government. (all cigs use American Tobbacco, blends and amount is the difference)

2) No nic fits on all those planes that no longer allow smoking

3) Be different, I mean in the Med and Eastern Europe being a non smoker makes you odd

4) As mentioned, more money for hobbies

5) No damn burns in your car or clothes from the drunken cig drop

6) Gives a damn good excuse to go off one day, on this site on in the real world, just say I am trying to quit smoking.

7) Bigger lung capacity means you can last longer in bed

8) When some one you do not like pulls out a cig, you can act offened and take up the righteous American stance

AWAD- I do not smoke, some cigars, but the current laws are ridiculous.

Don't start drinking !

The effects of both drugs are much worse when you use them together

Maybe http://www.quitnet.org/ can help you.
