Here is today's mech match up. I have picked a design that is rarely seen on boards and in novels an pitted it against a much more common design. The timeline is still 3025 and the terrains will remain the same: an open map with woods and a few hills and a city map.
The mechs are the Ostol OTL-4D and the Dragon DRG-1C. Now, I know the Snakes will pick the Dragon out of loyalty to the House, but I would like to see which design is preferred and if the terrain would change your mind.

| I think the Ostsol will take it. Twin large lasers beat out an AC/5 and LRM-10 in damage, and the Ostsol also does not have to be concerned with minimum range.

I vote Ostol, Much better mech all round, i havent been a fan of the Dragon, particulary in 3025, The Ostol is a good mech, i find it can hold its own in the 3050 era to.
By the way, although the Ostol is one of those hard to find mechs, i have never seen it on E-bay or in any store. It doesnt stop me using one of my others as a stand in.

I also vote for the Ostsol. It would I think, win hands down barring any lucky hits for either side.

The Dragon is a waste of metal, nothing more. Anyone found building the cheap excuse for a mech should be shot. Undergunned, ugly, useless. 3U.

| I vote Ostsol too although it is rather low on armor and can be more easily outflanked. However, if the Dragon were changed to a Grand Dragon, I think it could easily go the other way.

I voted for the Ostsol as well...the Dragon-1C may have max armor, but an AC-2, LRM-10 and 2 meds (with 1 facing the rear) don't match up to 2 large lasers, and 4 meds (even if 2 of those do face the rear as well)...although heat may become a concern if one is not careful on the latter 'Mech...
Unless the Dragon manages a golden BB outside of 15 hexes, or manages to get to the rear of the Ostsol, I don't see it being able to take the pounding the Ostsol can give out and it can't return...

Ostol. That mech has been my bane for years. Nothing like pounting on a mech with nothing mounted in the arms, the arms can be blown off with no real loss. I cant tell you how many times I was ighting the Ostol and was happy for hitting the mech and then crushed because I hit the arm and still hadnt breached it.
Ostol all the way.

I may be a Snake but I also understand tactics. The Ostol has it. If it was not so damn ugly then on the unseen list, it would have been a big time popular mech. It is a laser boat, and as it has been beaten many times, laser boats in general are superior.
Both move 5/8, Dragon has more armor but Ostol has more firepower. Also Dragon has some range issues and ability to utilize all its firepower in one direction or range band.
AWAD- But for looks.... Dragon is a beaut

I'll toe the line and vote Ostol. More damage potential, plus you don't have to worry about it blowing up...
The Dragon looks cooler, but that doesn't count...

I'll toss one for the Dragon, just because the Ost series always confused me, ever since my copy of 3025 TRO had pictures of teh Ost series swapped with one another.
Oy.
We never used *any* of them because they were confusing due to that error and *butt* *ugly*
I don't care if there's an Ostix Hawk and my other option is a Charger ... I'll take the good looking Charger over the Ost, anyday.

The ugly ones are usually the ones with the nastiest weapons so they are usually targeted first to get them off the field.
