It has been awhile, but I am back with another match up. This time it is two assaults. The terrain remains the same, one open with rolling hills and woods, the other a city. I know one of these mechs has a huge following, but don't discount the other. Both have their merits and weaknesses.
So, the match up is a Charger CGR-SB against an Awesome AWS-8Q. both have similar armor and speed, so that should not make a difference. I look forward to seeing which mech is preferred and who would win on either terrain.

Awesome in the open terrain should generally win...toss up in the wooded, with the Charger winning in the city.

Definatley the Awesome in the open, Awesome has always been a fav of mine.

In the open I think it would be close. In the woods or in the city I would go with the Charger. The Charger generates more heat than the Awesome does but also has a higher damage potential. The Awesome has a more rounded armor schematic while the Charger carries most of it on the front. The Awesome has to worry about minimums when engaging opponents at 3 hexes or less while the charger does not. The Awesome can start shooting 3 hexes sooner than the Charger can but at that range the chances are less than average to hit. Also when the Awesome take a crit and loses a weapon it's damage potential goes from 30 to 20, a 33% reduction. When the Charger takes a crit on a weapon it's damage potentila goes from 32 to 24, only a 25% reduction.
So if the Charger pilot can keep his heat under wraps then I think he can win most of the time.

They're really quite similar, and the chances of winning are just about equal.
The speed of these machines means they'll both take a lot of punishment in the open. Three PPCs vs four Large Lasers just isn't uneven enough to say much about.
The Charger will have a slight advantage in a city if it manages to sneak up in the Awesome's minimum range. On the other hand, a range of three hexes or less means you're in physical combat next round if things go badly.
It's a coin toss, both in the open and in a city.

similar,so I'll choose by" aestetichally"
judge and said charger....
(the sb version got 3 lg laser ....I'm not
sure)

So, here is where the tally stands:
2 in favor of the Awesome,
2 undecided, and
2 in favor of the Charger.
I will throw my opnion into the lot. Although I like the look and the sheer power of the Awesome, I feel that the Charger in this matchup will come out the victor in the both the open and the city. The awesome does have the range advantage, but the Charger has the strong frontal armor.
So, that now makes:
2 for Awesome,
2 for Undecided, and
3 for Charger.
