A vartiant rule some friends and I came up with today...these work best with the Spell Points system, but can work normally as well.
2 Way Metamagic Feats
Power Casting [Formerly Empower Spell] (Depower, Empower)
A De-powered spell does half damage at the use of a spell two slots lower.
Range Alteration Casting [Formerly Enlarge Spell] (Shrink Range, Extend Range)
A spell with a range close, medium or long range is halved. Uses a slot one level lower.
Duration Alteration [Formerly Extend Spell] (Shorten, Extend)
A shortened spell last half as long as usual and takes a spell 1 slot lower.
Custom Strength Casting [Formerly Heighten Spell](Weakened Spell, Heightened Spell)
All effects of the spell are cast as a lower level spell. IE 4th Level Fireball can now be a 2nd level fireball. Damage, Saves and ranges are all decreased accordingly.
Min/Max Casting [Formerly Maximize Spell]
All numeric effects of minimized spell are minimized. Uses a spell three levels lower.
Speed Casting[Formerly Quicken Spell] (Slow casting, Quicken Spell)
A slowly casted spell takes a full round to cast using a slot 4 rounds lower.
Area Spellcasting [formerly Widen Spell] (Narrow Spell, Widen Spell)
A narrowed spell's burst radiius, emanation, cone, line or spread shaped spell is halved using a spell 3 levels lower.
The only 2 feats not min.maxed are still and silent spell. Wizards, and casters that must prepare spells ahead of time, would have to prepare a min-maxed spell ahead of time just as if they were preparing a traditional meta-magic feats. Any one metamagic feat is treated as having bith the min and the max version. that is, a wizard that takes Maximize Spell also gets minimize spell.
So...what ya think?
