Allison 'Mechwarrior Institute
Time: 2 Years. Attribute Minimums: Dex 3, Ref 4, and Soc 3 Attribute Thresholds: Soc
+1. Traits: Promotion, well equipped, +1 Dex, Quirk \ loyalty to Thomas Marik. Quirk \
Dislike for flyboys. Skills: Increase all your skills in the MechWarrior field by +2 Field:
MechWarrior. (Dex 3, Int 4)
What does the "Trait: +1 Dex" mean?
I get a free +1 to my Dex attribute?

awww, blast it! I'll just take the description on the House Marik sourcebook and the FWL FM for 'Mechwarrior 2 and make my own Marik lifepath for the Allison 'Mechwarrior Institute (AMI)
Do you believe Military History and Blades should be in the skill list for the AMI?
I think Blade is more fit for the aristocratic Princefield swordsmen, on the other hand though on second thought, the League is steeped in tradition, maybe I should think of it as political indoctrination.
And I should add a event roll for going into OCS for AMI graduates.

Once again I have to say
HUH?
Never did understand that system. I am still trying to figure out vehicles in Btech.

It means that your maximum dex goes up another point; however, it should have been entered in as an attribute, not a trait.

No...as was sort of stated, it merely increases your maximum threshold for your dex attribute...ie, the maximum number of pts you can place in it before you have to add double the points to increase it to max...this is detailed on pg. 23, where it says: "The Life Path and events tell when to increase or decrease an Attribute by listing the Attribute's abbreviation and a positive or negative modifier...These modifiers do not apply directly to Attribute values; instead, they increase or decrease the number of points it may cost you to give your character a certain Attribute value (see Assigning Attributes, Traits and Skills, p. 54)."
I had this same concern when modifying Ruger's MW2 stats to MW3rd ed rules...

unless you go and buy the 3rd edition book, don't try and decipher 3rd.
it'll give you a headache.
believe me, i've tried. I'm a munchkin and its confusing.
so uh, yeah....
go buy the book to use the life paths.
me personally, i like 2nd edition better.
smoother gameplay makes for much better system.
plus, you need a spread sheet to build a kickass character in 3rd.
i can build one in my head from 2nd.
the easier numbers is soooooo a bonus.
