Anyone interested in giving this a try? Let the first person to reply state a purpose for the mech, a tonnage and let the rest of us go whole hog. _________________ "My job is to keep the majority of people in this country alive. OK. Let's try to build a 60-ton mech suitable for general duty in combat lances. I'm sure it will end in tears.

A heavily armoured 20ton mech which is extrememly fast and its role is to lead forward assault lances and destroy atlas's
got to be cheap too
No, actually sounds a good idea, a little more detail please?

That would be a Locust with a lucky pilot. Just ask SEraph over there, I here he has had some good runs in the simulator with that.

Well, like i said, first one in is the 60 tonner for general combat duty.. we'll get to the 20 tonner later ok?
Any suggestions? strictly level two mates. (or level one...) _________________ "My job is to keep the majority of people in this country alive. That's it. If fifty-one percent eat a meal tomorrow and forty-nine percent don't, I've done my job." - The Beast (AKA The President), Transmetropolitan

I rise to the occaison. Sorry for the name, I just love his basketball skills and personality.
The Malone, 60 tons of power, moving at a sleek 5/8 and filling out with 12 tons of armour and a solid endo steel frame.
The 11 doubled heat sinks let the PPC, and paired LRM 5s shoot to your hearts content at range, while the trio of ER mediums and the duo of streak 2s let it exploit damage in close.
The standard engine lets the Malone take repeated hits and not even worry about the damage accumulating with the exception of ejecting ammo if the armour gets too thin.
How's that for a general duty 60 tonner?

By committee, huh? I propose level one technology (as I always do), and a 4/6 ground speed. Jump jets optional.
Next person gets to decide weapons.

how about a compromise, a level one frame (ie no endo steel) to cut costs and level two weapons?
Optionally i split the thread for level one and level two designs _________________ "My job is to keep the majority of people in this country alive. That's it. you take the Malone that I designed... Drop it from 5/8 to 4/6/4 and then give it another half ton of armour it fits mud's challenge. Dropping the endo steel in this case reduces the cost by about 150k c-bills. Its a very expensive thing. lol.
Oh and flip the weapons to a trio of SRM 2s with a ton of ammo instead of 2 streak 2s with a ton of ammo, and its now a grand total of 150k cheaper.
So dropping Endosteel and tech 2 weapons leaves you with a chasiss that moves 4/6/4, has 11 double heat sinks, standard engine/armour/internals, 3 SRM 2s, 3 Medium Lasers, PPC, and 2 LRM 5s with a ton of ammo, and 12.5 tons of the armour. drops the price from the original malone's price of 5.6 mill to a mere 5.2 mill c-bills.
You penny pinch like a Lyran if 400k c-bills matter that much. It fits in 3025 after the GDL core was revealed. If St. Ives can use double heat sinks in 3025 so can I
As a side point to mud; Whats your preference, 4/6/4 or 5/8/0 for general purpose? I almost always would take the 5/8. Can I get your opinion

For a heavy Inner Sphere 'mech, 4/6. 5/8 almost invariably involves either giving up so much firepower that you might as well design a medium 'mech, or mounting a vulnerable XL engine.
For the clans, 5/8 is my default heavy 'mech speed. They've got better XL engines and lighter weapons though, which makes this possible.

Now now, lets not decide too quickly.. three of us are hardly a committee... let see what others say as well yes?
I think the 4/6/4 speed is ideal.. as its maximum armour...we looking at a line mech here yes? As for the weapons lets work our way there..

We're probably going at it the wrong way. Perhaps everyone should point out one thing the mech must have. Then we'll see how heavy it actually becomes.

I vote that it MUST have a barbeque grill and a keg cooler built in.
oh, and a PPC would be nice.

Seems like a PPC's getting popular, how many thing we should have one? And should it be ER?
I don't think its too difficult to shape the heat exhaust for the PPC so that it acts a BBQ grill... _________________ "My job is to keep the majority of people in this country alive. That's it. Speaking of this, I propose that the name should be: Grillmaster GRM-4.
The head should look like the Wienermobile!
Just kidding (mostly)
