Actually i find this a very decent mech. especially when you consider that its supposed to be a militia machine.
For one, while its none too impressive, its incredibly durable. even the MG ammo is locked away in a CASE. An ammo explosion will hurt, but it won't finish the mech off.
all in all, it should be able to keep a militia force alive long enough for reinforcements to relieve them. (as long as they don't go into pitched battle)

Like the poor old watchman. I think iit matters for some mechs that they are designed for a certain purpose and if they fulfil them well... they should be rated well too.. on the other hand some malfing huge assault mech with honking big weapons but no clear purpose.... like the Grand Titan.. bleah.
gaa.. rambling again..

It serves a purpose. It's an example of a bad Idea...
That and bad editing on the part of the publisher.... (amt of armor)

Speaking of bad editing, the number of vehicles and mechs with poor editing is insane...
My edition of the TR 3055 was riddled with errors, the Grand Crusader didn't add up for one..

And some units only masquerade as legal by using fractional accounting... Such as the Savannah Master.

Savannah Master comes up legit. How do you figure it doesn't?
Engine: 25 fusion- 1 ton.
Controls: 0.2 tons.
Lift Equipment: 0.5 tons.
Structure: 0.5 tons.
Armor: 1.5 tons.
Medium Laser: 1 ton.
It also lists sensors at 0.25 tons but as they don't do anything they are basically the same as fluff.
But without sensors the total weight comes out at 4.7 tons.
With sensors- 4.95 tons.
It was rounded up to 5 tons for vehicle design purposes. And don't say you can't have thing weigh less than 0.5 tons. Caln MG's are 0.25 tons each. _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

Hey, if the design goes red when I switch off fractional accounting in HmVee it can't be legit.
Nah, it's just the sensors that makes it go over. But I've seen other units that don't work without fractional.
For example the Shadow Hawk SHD-5M needs fractional accounting to actually mount CASE in both side torsos.

I do think that alot of the later mechs 3055 onwards bar a few are just churned out, alot of the designs are so similar its unbelievable.
However, saying that, some later designs really shine out. The Bushwacker, Shadowcat, Templar, Raven to name a few.
One thing that gets me is the fact that finding the minatures of some of these mechs is damn near impossible even on E-bay. I am reluctant to print off any mechs unless i have the minature or the cutout, otherwise it doesnt feel right. I have 20 minatures at the moment plus the cut outs from the box set.

I have spent most of my playing time with the little cardboard cutouts. If I do not have the mech I just write the name on the front. Heck, I have even used D & D miniatures before when playing bigger battles. I mostly rely on the pictures in my head rather than the looks of the mechs on the board. (Besides, I am cheap)

Me and my friends played Monte Diablo without a single miniature. Just cardboard marked with the model signature and direction.

You can tip the table over when you lose without the fear of breaking any miniatures for one thing.

This is because the designs were created before the fractional accounting rule was added.
The same can be said of some hovertanks that were legit before the rule stating that engines had to be a certain percentage (20%?) of the vehcile's mass.
Also, I think it was the Rifleman IIC (or something like that, it was from the 3055 TRO) that was legit at first, but then became illegal when the rule regarding the number of heat sinks mounted in the engine was changed to it's current form.

It's a little difficult to look down the barrel of a cardboard cutout....
Without laughing anyway....
