I know this is going to be schlock, but what the hey. You pay your money, sit in the theatre and enjoy almost two hours of brain candy and mind blowing special effects.

I have seen the previews for that. Probably won't be as good as the original movie, it will ignore parts of the book, and it has Tom Cruise in it. All of that not withstanding, I still would like to see it.

On a side note. Just got Troy on DVD over the weekend. I thought it was very well done. As a history nut I was very interested in this one. The overall look of the movie was pretty good. The huge Navy looked a bit too fake, but still better than those old battery operated jobs from the old Sinbad and Jason movies. I especially liked the fighting scenes. I could tell that the main characters did not just learn the choreography. Brad pitt especially looked like he really knew his stuff.

Yeah, but it has Dakota Fanning in it, too. That one is a true contender to N. Portman's throne. Have you seen "I am Sam" or "Man on Fire"?

Dear goodness, man! Fine craftsmanship, yes. But you are obviously into military history, right? From that POV, ok. But have you read the Iliad? Once again: dear goodness. What a wholesome slaughter of one of the most epic tales, ever.....

Notice how I did not say that it was a good representation of the Iliad. I said that it was a good representation of what a siege of a coastal castle would have looked like. After watching it I was trying to find my copy of the Iliad but I seem to have lost it. I might have to re-read that to see what parts they messed up.

For the most part I usually do not expect movies to be faithful to the original book. So I was just watching it as an historical film instead.

The parts that they messed up would be from about the begining to the end.

Speaking as a Latin Student, I am absolutely offended by the pansy-*#& Aeneas. Even more offended that the equally pansy-@$* Paris didn't get killed in the course of the movie.

It's a technically well done movie and the story is probably really good in its own right, but it is not the story of the Trojan War (at least it isn't any version that the ancients would have recognized). Makes it really hard for this antiquities lover to like the movie.

And Homer and Aeschilus (sp) beat the pants off the director of Troy.
