Okay, here's one you don't see everyday.
WSP-1A Wasp vs STG-3R Stinger.
Same weight, same armor, same speed. Same damage potential, different ranges and different ammo amounts. They are small and fast and a load of fun.
Who would win head to head?
Which would do better in which terrain?
Which would you rather pilot of the two? _________________ If ignorance is bliss, then why are you so miserable?

Definitely the Wasp...you'll get a lot more damage out of an SRM-2 than you will from two M.G.s

The Stinger. I need some style in my ride. _________________ Evil is like a bowl of oranges. Only one, instead, is an orange of DOOM. That orange has a fate to rule over the other oranges with an iron fist. That orange is me.

The ONLY reason I would chose the stinger aver the wasp is the stinger has two hands to use while the wasp only has one.
other than that> I usually don't fight 20 tonners, I use them for scouting and enfilade attacks. thats about it ( and if you believe thats all i use them for I'll sell you Luna for a five spot.)

I voted the Stinger. And yes, I had actually thought about this one quite often. A major reason was pointed out by Daphne. Also, I like the double MGs a lot more than that one SRM.
In a one-vs-one the SRM is still kinda useful. But I loathe that weapon - on average it does only half its potential damage. And it isn't even an effective crit-seeker. Though they have a shorter range, the MGs are more reliable and have the great double-function of annihilating infantry.
The other qualm I have with the Wasp is the placement of the launcher in the leg, a placement that I have never liked, apart from in the old Mechwarrior 2 PC game....

jymset pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter. Stinger=good, Wasp=bad.

The Wasp is a more flexible machine. Personally, I prefer to load the SRM-2 with inferno rounds. This gives it better than equal odds against any sort of conventional forces, and if you're using them in a larger 'mech battle sending in your Wasps to pepper the enemy's assault lance with infernos will make a much larger impact than you'd expect out of a couple of puny Wasps. If you're using morale rules for infantry, putting them to the torch will break them a lot faster than mowing them down with M.G. fire. If you're in a city and dealing with infantry using buildings as cover, fire definitely works a lot better than M.G.s.
You could also pack smoke rounds in the SRM-2 launcher, always handy for covering your recon lance when it's time to get the hell out of dodge. Of course...infernos make lots of smoke too...here's one to BBQ infantry

Stinger. I prefer its weapons. SRM 2s annoy me.
