Should I keep trying to design new weaponry and technologies?

Hahahaha! You're funny. And harmless!
It has been a long time since people like Mandrake 'swamped' the board in new innovations! And no, I never used them (still sticking rabidly to lvl1 days, despite being a Falcon)! But go ahead, shoot!

I take it you aren't old enough to remember what happened to star fleet battles.
Stop.
Stop.
Stop hurting Battletech.
The heart of 'tech is a simple game. I have this mix of weapons which do X damage, for Y weight and Z heat and you have your mix which do A damage for B weight and C heat.
If you really want to see who the better pilot is fight somebody in the same 'mech with the same weapon loadout.
New weapons with special modifiers and little quirks just make the rules that much harder to remember or interrupt gameplay. Differentiating your clan or house and visibly marking them as different as possible happens in the fluff and the books. Once 'mechs step on the battlefield its time to put down the books and get to killing.

I like pie
New weapons are good, get some interesting ideas too. I prefer whole new designs rather than the old
Light ppc, heavy ppc, Extreme range ppc, ultra ppc etc.
One thing i do like designing is new ballistic weaponary, particularly new ammo types for the AC's.
Keep up the good work anyway, nice to see other peoples ideas.

I like pie.
Although I have been trying to cut back.
I'm with Seraph and jymset, here. I might not use the stuff myself, but it's still interesting to see.
And Hardware: can you tell us what happened to SFB?

I saw a Star Fleet Battles anniversary master rulebook the other day. That thing should have priced by the pound, I don't think even squad leader had that heavy a master rulebook. _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson

I like Pie.
Sorry, Jymset, but Im probably butchering the language spelling phonetically.
Shwartz Valster Kirst Torte....Black Forrest Cake.........good stuff.
I like seeing new and interesting weapons, but I refuse to use weapons and gear that make NO sense what so ever. Way back when, one of the guys I used to play against was giggling about some armor he either found stats for online, or from Mechforce or something. Neutronium Armor. It took something along the lines of 200 points in one location to mark off one armor circle on the diagram. Absolutely stoopid. But then the guy couldnt design a good mech to save his life....

Hey, you got the Torte bit right!
As far as I remember, MFUK released a rotary autocannon (this is more than half a decade before the official RAC), a plasma rifle (ERPPC that causes 10 damage and 5 heat) and a cowl (head protection thingy). AFAIK it never released that weirdo armour. Good for them....

SFB started out as a nice, relatively simple game set in the Star Trek universe. I believe the original game only had the races represented in the original series and (gasp) the animated series. Thus you had six races, each with a special weapon or design theme.
The Federation had the biggst and baddest phasers and photon torpedoes.
The Klingons had more phasers, but they were less powerful types and disruptors that were quicker to recharge than photon torpedoes.
The Lyrans had missiles, lots and lots of missiles.
The Tholians had eensy-weensy little ships but they were defensive, and they tended to have a lot of webs set up in their space.
The Romulans had the plasma torpedo that could gut a heavy cruiser with one hit. But it took a long time to charge and it was range sensitive. They also had a cloaking device, making them the U-boats of outer space.
The Gorn used the same phasers as the Federation and they used a weaker version of the plasma torpedo. Didn't take as long to charge, more range sensitive though.
Simple game, had a blast playing this back in '79 when it came out. They started issuing expansions every couple of months. The expansions corrected errata and opened up optional rules. They kept on adding additional rules long after I moved away from where I was living and stopped gaming for a while.
Fast forward to '87. I played in a Captain's Tournament at Totalcon. The game had been taken over by rules lawyers in my absence. I played a Romulan. This guy, playing a Fed of course, comes in and blows my ship out of the water despite my being cloaked because he has the Magna Carta of rules books memorized and is using "optional rules".
Now the Captain's Tournament at Totalcon is given its own room and I get the feeling that the miniature players and board gamers kind of feel sorry for the folks in that room.

I like seeing new technologies, as long as theyre balanced.
Please no rotary AC50s with 100 rounds/ton of ammo and a 10/20/30 range profile. Please.
