I don't really expect anyone to say anything about this. I just made it because I could.

A thought: the chem sprayer that this thing carries could easily be converted into a double-strength vehicle flamer (since it's twice as heavy, it should do proportionately more damage, right?).

there was a rash of these way back. i posted a fire truck, but it was pointed out to me that it was to slow to respond quickly.
this, like that, is to slow.

I've edited the design: by adding 15 tons, I made room for a larger engine.

Even with the additional engine it is still a bit to slow. I would really expect this of around 7-11 movement.

No idea. But your dark age mentality disturbs me greatly.
As for the 'Mech, I'll have to agree with Stinger. It's just too slow. If it's meant to put out fires, it his to get there before the whole area's been burned down. The same comment from Vagabond inspired me into a hovercraft, at which no one has bothered to look.
My other concern is cost. At two million c-bills each, I'm not sure if any city fire department could afford such a thing in any useful numbers.
And a question for you, Warhammer. It's called a "chem sprayer." What chemical is it spraying?

Not gonna happen. Not with a Utility 'Mech structure and an ICE. For 7/11, the most efficient weight is 25 tons, and even then it's 16 tons overweight.

It's the possibility of the 'mech being used for combat, right? You know, there is precedent for that even before the "dark age". Example: the Grey Death Legion trilogy, book 2. Most of the 'mechs the Free Verthandi Rangers have are modified agromechs, construction mechs, pickermechs, and various other utility designs.

I looked at it. I just didn't have anything constructive to say. Back to the topic at hand: my original inspiration for the vehicle was from a line in the Explorer Corps sourcebook, referencing what they called "Fire Tenders", converted battlemechs that were on firefighting duty near the airstrip at Columbus Base. While this design isn't fast enough to reach fires in a city, its certainly fast enough to get around as small a facility as the average military base, especailly since they would be scattered in strategic locations.

Foam fire suppressant, I imagine.

Yes, I know. I've not read that one, but I'd assumed that putting weapons on WorkerMechs wasn't unique to dark age.

Oh. I wish you'd said that sooner. Speed would've been less important if I'd known that.

And now that I know this thing lives on an airbase, that makes more sense.

Here's a better version.
Type/Model: Fire Fighter
Tech: Inner Sphere / 2423
Config: Biped BattleMech
Rules: Level 3, Custom design
Mass: 40 tons
Chassis: Various Standard
Power Plant: 160 Various I.C.E.
Walking Speed: 43.2 km/h
Maximum Speed: 64.8 km/h
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor Type: Simple Metal Plate Standard
Armament:
1 Chem Sprayer*
3 Chem Tanks*
Manufacturer: Various
Location: Various
Communications System: Standard Emergency-Band Radio
Targeting & Tracking System: Simple "Iron Sights" Targeting
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
The "Fire Fighter" flame suppression workmech was designed in 2423 by the
now-defunct SafetyCo (a subsidiary of FirWorx Inc.) as an on-site
fast-response unit to fight fires and assist in dealing with other disasters.
Unfortunately, the design's slow land speed prevented it from reaching far-off
fires before the burning area was turned into a smouldering shell, and was too
expensive to be widely deployed. Thus, the "Fire Fighter" could only be
deployed in small areas, such as military compounds, airfields, and industrial
complexes.
==Capabilities:==
The sprayer mounted on the unit's arm is capable of dispensing many different
types of chemical, from foam fire suppressant to a de-icing agent to plain
water. With minor modifications, the sprayer can even dispense accelerant,
making the unit able to function as an incendiary vehicle.
Not only is the unit able to fight (or start) fires, it is capable of
assisting in rescue operations, thanks to its capacity of lifting and moving
multi-ton pieces of rubble.
==Deployment==
Fire suppression 'mechs are deployed at almost every airbase, landing strip,
starport, factory, and military base that can afford them.
