Well, last poll, ever! The only weight classes that are left would be 25 tons (1 design), 75 (2), 85 (2), 90, 95 and 100 (1 each). Hardly exciting. Well, maybe the B-Master vs Stalker one..... But I'm drifting away!

Here we have another 3 absolute classics: the Archer, THE most common heavy battlemech, these days relegated to fire-support duty, the Grasshopper, everybody's secret brawling weapon, and the Warhammer, THE original face of BT! This will be very interesting!

Well, the Archer is very tough. And has great long-range capabilites. Up close it is utterly crap. And it cannot hold its heat. And it looks rather bland. However, it is such a mainstay in my forces. No better missile boat out there: I loathe the Crusader, I don't consider the Catapult a missile boat, the Longbow is inefficient, the B-Master S....no, I'm kidding. The Trebuchet is nice too, but not in the same league as the Archer.

The Grasshopper. Well, the 2nd 'mech I ever used! It was soooo tough. Despite being an absolute newbie, I took on a veteran P-Hawk and Quickdraw, and almost won! I have very fond memories of that one. But I've only used it a handful since. Performance wise, this one is my favourite of the three. Tough as nails (as the Archer) and possibly the most heat-efficient of all 3025 designs! Though, like the Victor, for instance, relegated to shorter ranges.

A quick sidestep here. Bear with me, this will avoid you yet another poll! Question: How unbelievably great is the Grasshopper compared to the Victor?! Ok, it lacks that 20-pt damage punch. But it is 10 tons lighter, has a much more considerable (though still weak by any standard) long-range punch and better armour. And it's no slouch at close ranges, either!

Which leaves us with the Warhammer. Ah, what a great-looking design. But, do you remember the poll by mud, a month back or so? I much prefer the Marauder, as far as the two great 'classics' go! The Warhammer, with its heavy weapons load, wants to close. But IMO it is neither heat efficient enough (I know, I'm nitpicky) or protected enough to do so convincingly. And, while fun, that plethora of small-caliber guns is not all that wonderful. Greatest of these for fluff and looks. But my least-liked design on the board.

So which one is it gonna be? One I use most often. One I think is the best. One I think is coolest. Well, actually, I originally had set my mind on the Archer. Just for filling a niche so nicely. And being able to walk off the board most of the times.

As my name implies, I'm rather biased for the Warhammer.

The Warhammer is the best for style, but if I had to pick one to build a force around, it would be the Archer. Its not nearly as versatile as the others, but a team of them can bring a lot of firepower, and in level one the long range of LRMs is more important.

I'm all for brute force.
The Warhammer's my game.

Yup, brute force is the ticket. Two PPCs is a solid package of hurt, and it doesn't require ammo or closing with the enemy. And if someone decides to close in there's some backup weapons. This is a fine mech for any general combat use.

The Archer is powerful, but just too specialized. Same for the Grasshopper.

I absolutely love the Grasshopper, it draws spaces in my "Medium" mech company with the Panthers, and Whitworth's and things.

Although calling it a "Medium" mech company is a lie unless your talking average tonnage. Which can be a very interesting and lying way of doing it.

Either way I just love the way you can use the 70 Grasshopper as your beating stick. Sure its less powerful than the Warhammer, but does it need to be that powerful to work in line units where its going to mash lighter things than it.

Still the LRM would be better swapped out for an SRM rack but that would mean it was a Guillotine rather than a Grasshopper, which is the other mech I'd slot into that mythical "Medium" company I so love.

All in all its a great mech, in my opinion. I like the Archer but thats because it fulfills my fire support role 9 days out of 10. The Grasshopper is my love on the other hand so it gets my vote.

i do have a penchant for lrms but even still that aside i would go with the archer for its smooth looks (yes) and effectiveness in its designed role

I prefer the Archer. I've used it a lot and am comfortable on the command couch. Have used the Grasshopper in conjunction with Victors to devastating effect. As for the Warhammer, I'm not big on it, but I would pick it over a Marauder anyday.

A lot depends on how many map sheets you are fighting on. If only 1-2 maps, I like the Grasshopper.

It jumps, It shoots a lot and has no real heat problems. And unlike the other two, it suffers no hit penalty at close ranges with its main firepower. Nor will its main firepower run out of ammo.

Though I would lose the useless LRM5 slingshot. And go with either some SRMs, a med laser/heat sink combo- 2/1 or 1/2, or perhaps even stick 4 MGs on the torso with a ton of ammo for jumping in nice and close.

If we are talking modding the Grasshopper, well you guys know that there is a lvl1 upgrade - the 5N found in RS:Upgrades (how fitting)!

It drops the LRM5 and upgrades the LL to a PPC. The space in the head is then taken up by another ML. Very, very strong!
