The fluf should be changed completely for each variant.
In any case, the weapons, which seem to be the only changed things, are not as good as the A variant. The LRM is useless when out of ammo and a single medium laser won't hold off the enemy for more than, possibly, a turn or two.
I know this review is sorta old but I have to say a few things first with 12 full salvos this mech has enough ammo to last for the average engagement and can easily extract it self from battle if it does run out of ammo with its high speed.
As far as completely changing the fluff for each variant on a common chassis generally the various sub-marks of a given chassis are designed and constructed at the same time and as you notice differ little other than weapon load as a result the fluff reflects the common heritage Commonalty of chassis components is common in ODF equipments.

Personally, I've never seen this Spector post. And yeah, 12 rounds is good for one engagement I prefer 14+ though. Because then you can scrimp through two battles.
Still most of us who don't use campaign set ups probably don't care about such things.
I wasn't all that impressed with the 7 or 9 lines of HD mechs. Not quite my cup of tea. I'm a bracket firing 4/6/4 type mechwarrior. Your infinity/infinity squared/0 type mechwarrior with close range alphas:-P
The best fights are between varied styles. Makes life more interesting. I like the fact that damage is simultanious so if you destroy my mech with a back bite in round XY. I can arm flip and alpha you knowing I'm dead anyway and most likely cripple it;)
