Not having any of the HMPro products (never got around to getting them) these aren’t validated or anything (feel free to validate them). Made em on a long long train ride. Y’know, bunch of hours, nothing to do, laptop wireless cable not on hand, Battletech and Aerotech2 manuals scanned up on laptop and in Adobe Acrobat form…

Overview

The Feuersturm Gunship is made by the LAAF, on Coventry, by Coventry Metal Works, and is respectively made by the Coventry Metal Works Vehicle Division. The designers at the Metal Works got the name from an early design codename, Feuersturm (Firestorm in German) when the primary configuration had multiple flamers. The Flamers were ultimately removed, but the name stuck (and is still quite valid)

While costly for a vehicle as vulnerable as a VTOL, it seems to be a good vehicle so far, evaluators say. While any omni-unit is rare on the battlefields, much less a vehicle, the Feuersturm Gunship is an OmniVTOL. This is highly unusual, and its XL fusion engine makes skeptics point out its costs. Supporters suggest that the skeptics stop penny-pinching and look at the combat value, not price tag, of this vehicle

Capacities

The Feuersturm Gunship is indeed an impressive, abet expensive, vehicle. All of the configurations are capable of destroying enemy vehicles with ease, and can take on most light and some medium mechs.

Its usual physical configuration weapons consists of its ‘heavy hitter’ (The Autocannon, PPC, or array of SRM6s) are mounted in the hull below the cockpit. The rest of the weapons are equally distributed on the ‘wings’ of the aircraft.

The Primary configuration is a popular configuration, as the RAC 5 provides flexibility, and has plenty of ammo, plus 3 ER Medium Lasers for support. The primary variant is an all around fighter. Alpha configuration is rare, but popular with Lyran Infantry who the VTOL has sometimes been attached, as the VTOL provides serious fire support, its AC/10 capable of ripping apart hostile vehicles with normal ammo, shooting down enemy aircraft with cluster ammo, and fairly notorious for using its 4 15mm Miniguns and Fleccete munitions for shredding enemy infantry by the platoon.

Beta Configuration is often used as a flanker, unleashing a payload of lethal 100mm rockets into the rears of enemy vehicles. 3 ER Medium Lasers provide ample support, and should the 60 salvos of rockets run out, can give the VTOL a chance to run for it. Configurations Charlie and Delta are similar, both mounting a PPC. Configuration Charlie also mounts an LRM 10, and 24 shots of ammo combined with its PPC makes this configuration a deadly medium to long range fighter. It also features a Rocket Array, composing of 15 Rockets. While Configuration Delta, the most expensive, mounts an electronic warfare suit, consisting of an ECM jammer pod, a Beagle Active Probe, and a Targeting Computer attached to its PPC. It also has a 4-rack of 100mm Streak Rockets to provide close in punch, with 25 salvos. This array of expensive computers and weapons makes this version a deadly deep recon/strike vehicle.

Configuration Epsilon is an infantry deployment vehicle, capable of deploying 2 platoons of soldiers into the midst of battle, thanks to its heavy armor and substantial guns. Space freed up from configuration Delta’s EWU and Autocannon ammo bins along with various space used for minor cargo, frees up enough space to fit in 52 combat ready infantry, or 8 battle armor suits (Battle Armor tends to cramp to compartment). 4 15mm miniguns keep enemy infantry ducking as its payload (usually Veteran or Elite Infantry, and sometimes even battle armor) storms out. 2 ER Medium Lasers and an SRM 4 help cover the infantry from enemy vehicles.

Deployment

The Feuersturm Gunship is seeing deployment in several RCTs, including the Coventry Jaegers and 26th Guard. It is sometimes attached to infantry, who find a liking to the heavy support it can lay down.

Some New Equipment…for…Bombers (And Fighters)!!!

These new ordinance weapons are for any Aerospace fighter that wishes to allocate weight to a bomb bay. A bomb bay works like cargo, but, instead of cargo, it carriers 1 ton of ordinance per ton of bomb bay, such as Arrow IV warheads, Bombs, and Missiles. Unlike externally carried bombs, these bombs do not reduce the speed of the carrier.

Standard Bomb- Damage: 10*, Weight: .2 tons, Range: Bomb

Arrow IV Warhead- Damage: 15*/8*, Weight: .2 tons, Range: Bomb

Standard Missile- Damage: 10, Weight: .5 tons, Range: Extreme

Bunker Buster Missile- Damage: 40, Weight: 2.5 Tons, Range: Long

‘City Clearer’ Bomb- Damage: 50* to target hex, 25 to a 5 hex radius from the target hex (not including target hex). Damages units flying level 4 [Battletech levels] or lower. Destroys all tree terrain in radius. Weight: 10 tons. Range: Bomb (Unit operating bomb must not be below elevation 4 [Battletech, not Aerotech] or take damage)

Note: Standard Bombs may be modified to Inferno, operating like an inferno SRM with 5 damage to all in target hex, and heat damage is 8. It lasts for the same duration as an SRM inferno. These weigh .3 tons.

Other- Standard Bombs are considered to be ‘smart bombs’ and do not deviate off of target. Arrow IV Warheads are Arrow IV rockets adapted for bombing. These deviate as usual. Damage marked with a * damage all units in the hex. For the city clearer, no aircraft may carry more than 1. VTOLs may not carry any of the ordinance listed above.

Here are the bombers!!! All of these are generic.

Artillery Bomber Template

To modify any Bomber to an Artillery Bomber, simply remove any amount of weapons and Bomb Bay Space and replace with Warhammer 3025’s Slammer Artillery Battery and sufficient ammo.

Edit: Fixed typos
Edit2: Modified Feurstrum Gunship. Also made bomb statistics more coherant and more sensible. Added Config Epsilon to the VTOL.

Interesting. I've never considered an Omni VTOL before.

Just so you know, I did indeed take the oppurtunity to run it through Heavy Metal, and came up with 14.5 tons of pod space. And the basic chassis comes in at 2,550,000 c-bills.

But an interesting concept nonetheless. I'll have to try it now.

My biggest beef.
Cost.

It's just too expensive for something as expensive as a VTOL. The only time i would even consider putting a fusion engine (not even an XL) would be for a special forces VTOL or a clan chopper (to carry ER LLs with..).

While i'll agree that it does allow the chopper to carry a heavier weapon load, it also doesn't change the fact that the rotor makes the chopper vulnerable.

I have long thought that the lvl 3 VTOL rules should be adopted for normal game play. Where each hit only does one point to the rotors not full weapon damage.

Thanks chihawk.

I'll have to agree with stinger here.

If VTOL roters are going that fast, then theres a pretty good chance that the hit is going to be glancing. Besides, most VTOLs can operate with only a couple blades, and most have a bunch.

Mayby VTOLs should take 1 damage per hit, but loose 1 cruise MP? And mayby reduce the number of Roter hits from like 5 to 2 or so on the to-hit chart...
