==Overview:==
The StarosTechnologies ST-46 Thundercracker is one of newest fighters to come
of this well know company's assmebly lines. The Thundercracker has a one of
the top speeds for it's class of figthers and in the hands of a skilled pilot
it can really turn heads and make the enemy forces take notice and seek cover.
Twin laser/missile combo of weapons allows for an awesome array of firepower
and backed up with the migth and punch of the Class 20 autocannon, the
Thundercracker makes it's self know to all in a manner of seconds.
The most well know incident involving the ST-46 happen during the Colax
Rebellion. Rebel pilots in ST-46s managed to catch the Vondor Imperium's elite
34th Armor Regiment (Hover) off guard and with theri pants down. The rebels
jumped in to the Gordon system aboard a commerical dropship, and once the
dropships was above the space port, the rebels launched their fighters which
was made up a 8 ST-46s and 6 Mosquito fighers. All raced at full speed for
their targets, one being the fuel depot and the other being the staging area
for the 34th Armor. The Vondor defenders had no chance to respond before their
sunny afternoon was racked with explosions and death hailing into them from
the fast moving fighters. The ST-46 made two quick passes over the 34th's
base, targeting repair shops and parked vehicles of all kinds. With a matter
of mintues hover tanks and repair vehicles as well as maintance bays and
barracks were a blaze and leveled. Once the ST-46s rolled over the base they
turned back towards the space port and did what they could to cover for the
ligther Mosquitoes.
Not wanting to give the defenders any chance of retaliation the rebels quickly
boarded their dropship burned out towards their waiting jumpship as fast they
could. The commander of the Vondor garrison didn't send any pursuit craft
since he was busy trying to contain massive firestorms that were engulfing
block upon block of the industrial section of the city as well as trying to
save what he could of the armor regiment. This attack proved that the ST-46
Thundercracker was an excllent ground attack craft and not surpriseling the
Vondor Imperium soon placed an order for 100 of these fighters to combat rebel
forces and to keep their own figher units up to par. Some folks believe that
the Gordon Raid was nothing more then staged attack by the Vondor military to
get what they weren't able to get via budget reason, but no one who was there
in the Gordon system feels like the pilots of those fighters were Vondor
pilots, no they know all to well that the rebels were keen on taking revenge
on the one unit that had been infamous in "pacifiing" problem areas in the
Hanover system just months earlier.

Quite a nasty weapons package there! Can you give us the upgraded (lvl2) version too? I'd like a few of these instead of my Stukas.

It looks nasty untill you look at the heat sinks and then you realize that if you fire two or more weapons you are going to overheat...Bad on mechs worse on fighters

Depends on how you play, if all you do is alpha strike then yes the heat is an issue. Seeing how I don't use that computer game tactic then the heat is something you watch and use to your advantage.
Now a variant or two that addresses the heat issue can be done and the simplist is an upgrade to newer tech by the use of double heat sinks and or an XL and DHS.

I should have looked closer at the heat sinks. Ten SHS is really too few on a fighter. You have to roll for loss of control at 5 points on the heat scale. Firing both large lasers nets you 6 after the heat phase.

The simple change you made by downgrading the LRM 20s to LRM 15s and adding 10 more heat sinks has made this a VERY dangerous foe now you can soften up the tatrget at long range with the LRMs add a Large laser coming in switch to both as you close and themn use the Class 20 autocannon to deliver the Coupe de Graus at close range.I like

Oh yes! That's a real killer!
I'll buy a full squadron of six. And two for the command element.
