BattleMech skysleds. When I say thism I mean a jet that attaches to the back of the Mech and carries the Mech through the skies. The Mech can use it as part of a Long Range Areial Assult or as a part of a Combat Drop. Kinda like a LAM config that detach once you land. Do you guys think its doable in a BT setting? Maybe a special small craft calibrated to handle the units mass?
BTW, i got the idea from an Anime called Full Metal Panic. Here are some Pics of what I mean:

I doesn't seem applicable to me. While I envision BattleMechs as being rather limber, I don't think that they'd be capable of using something like what you've pictured.
It's an intersting idea, but I just don't like it, personally. I think that you'd be better off using DropShips for aerial assaults.

Dropships + Jump Packs might give you the result you desire...

Those are still to crude and calous compared to this idea. Ya, you can strap a jump pack on any mech. however, it offers no were near the degree of control as this system possibly could. Difference between a WW2 Parachute and a Parafoil.
It is just an idea anywho.

Hey I have seen/have that anime your talking about! lol
Anyway, I think it would be possible but the rules will be pretty specific. Like a weight limit you know cause I just can't picture an Atlas or Kodiak riding skiis. Those mechas your talking about were pretty light when compared to battle tech and I believe they weighed about the same or maybe just a tad more then protomechs.
I'm not being biased because I like the anime, but if they can put jump jets on a VTOL or hovercraft, why not the skiis?
If anything, they'd be level 3 rules.

Interesting idea.
Planetlifters are able to carry mechs to 70 tons, but deploying them takes some time.
Idea of specialized mech carrier may be possible, but carrying something like mechs would probably turn the plane to flying brick, well flying, aehm... the more I think about it the less possible it seems.
Maybe making some kind of compromise between LAM - allowing mech to be transformable to aerodynamic shape
and this idea - engine would be separate conventional VSTOL fighter that would have carrying capacity to lift the mech (maybe a little less)
To realize this. the mech would devote some tonnage (less than LAM, but some percent of weight) to anchors that would be used to attach the plane to the mech (maybe just double of it's internal structure weight (always 10%, ES would just make the structure lighter, but connection is made from standard materiel)) and perhaps it's CT internal space (2 crits) and the fighter would have to mount just as heavy anchor point.
The fighter may have it's own pilot, but it may be just drone (applying rules from MaxTech).

Lol maybe I should have looked at the pictures first. I kept thinking of a scene with skiis. Regardless, it should be possible. And also, the whole weight thing I mentioned earlier might still apply and should obviously still make a difference.
I have been really of the ball lately. Maybe I should slowdown on that medicine.

Interesting. The only real use would be for combat drops and such. The fuel would have to be restricted and once the unit lands it jettisons the pack.

And that is the very idea. You glide into an LZ under controlled flight then drop the pack. Only enough fuel for Orbit/High Altitude to ground or from Base to Attack Zone so that the unit can establish a united Beach Head with out Asteroid Impact effect or respond rapidly to an attack from some distance.

Long story short: I have a Behemoth that I love to use, but at 3/5, it's pathetically slow.
I did make skysleds for battlesuits, basically a 5-ton hovercraft with a small laser in front, able to carry one battlesuit. Oversized controls let the suit trooper do the driving. Haven't tested it in a game yet, but it came out pretty cool.
Next, I tried for a hovercraft that could carry the Behemoth. Couldn't make a big enough hovercraft.
I like the idea, but in all honesty, for hitting a target from the air, I have half a dozen VTOLs (Micro Machine minis). VTOLs give straight 'mech players fits.
