Well here is a topic probably discussed before. Which is better, the Patton or the RommeL They are very similar tanks. Both have the same speed, same manufacturer, same weight, but differing amounts of firepower and armor. The Patton has more armor and more range, but sacrafices the punch of the larger cannon carried by the Rommel. Both have a Small Laser and LRM 5 pack, but the Patton also has a flamer to better deal with infantry. All in all, the Rommel has more firepower while the Patton has more armor. So cast a vote, and tell my why you picked that particular tank

Against mechs neither of them are terribly useful. Meaning that the main role of the both of them should be hit and fade or anti-tank duty. With a move of only 4/6, they won't be able to retreat fast enough for hit and fade to be effective.
Using strictly level two vehicle rules, I have to go with the Patton. The longer range on it's AC/10 gives it that much more time to crit something like the Rommel to death.

Rommel all the way. I don't use this type of vehicle except in defense or ambushes, so the short range is no drawback.

Rommel, AC/20 is ... well AC/20. I wouldn't take these vehicles anywhere outside of city or other defensive positions without working on them a little.

Hide them in basements and shoot the legs off invading mechs.

Rommel. They have always made me pay dearly for engaging them. and although I have always beaten them, it was always a bittersweet victory
