If any others of you grew up reading science fiction. You ought to know this man's name, and have some understanding of how his life impacted ours. He was not a writer, but an editor. And so many of the books that shaped our dreams were the books he selected to be published.
On June 11 he called his old friend author David Drake and asked him to write his obituary. He had the stroke that killed him the next day.
Read it if you don't know who Jim Baen was, and you may gain some understanding of how much of an influence he had on the books that helped shape your life.
