This match up involves two 'mechs from the custom section here, Blackhand's Panther PNT-9K (35 tons), and my own Fox FX-1V (40 tons).

The Panther is slightly slower, but can jump, has superior heat dissipation capacity, and a longer ranged weapon. The Fox is slightly heavier and faster, but is ground-bound and has a shorter maximum range. There is no difference in armor, and little appreciable difference in short range weapons.

The PNT Wins IMO. Fox doesn't have the concentrated punch of the ER PPC and RAC is not that reliable...

I actually had to give it to the Fox. It is a pretty close match up really. SD is right about the ERPPC, but with only 3 SSRM-2's as backup and slower movement it can be kept at range never allowing them to come into play. The Fox with it's RAC-2 has a moderately powerful weapon that is backed up by an ERML letting it tag away at the Panther round after round with 2 weapons slowly grinding it to bits. The ammo for the Fox is adequate for an extended bout especially if fired in clips of 4 although slightly slower at dishing out the damage and spreading it about the Panther. The armor is almost even too so it is a tough call overall. I just have to go with the Fox on this one, but like I said its pretty close. I would almost call it even odds.

I chose the Panther. In general for lighter MEchs the 10pts will get lucky a few times in any battle. The RAC will get hung up once in awhile.

What may seem odd is I felt the more open the terrain the better the Fox would do. Yes no PPC, but RAC 2 and ERML will crew that armor faster. Speed would make it harder to hit, and allow the Fox to choose when it attacks.

In tighter terrain the jump of the Panter comes in. Then the 3 SSRM2s are hard to stay away from.

the RAC may do ok, until the Panther fires the ER PPC, and the RAC jams.

I ran this one a couple of times the other day, and the Panther came out as the clear winner. The Fox one one time out of 3 or 4 games (I forget exactly), pretty much on critical hits. The Panther was able to consistently strip armor from the Fox with its PPC, and generally grind it down.
