As I was looking over older BT related Magazine yesterday evening I ran across an article in FAR&AWAY magazine for Renegade Legion and civilan ships...frieghters, Tugs, cargo haulers, passenger liners, privateers etc...and thought COOL! This can be used in BT as well...

I know the feeling.

As for the DropShip, I like it. It should be quite effective intrasystem, moving things to recharge stations and other points of interest within a star system. It would also work well in a place like Talon/Wernke, moving this and that back and forth between two points in a system.

But I wonder whether it would be cost effective for interstellar trade. I haven't read much in-universe fluff about interstellar trade, but I get the impression that it isn't cheap to do. Given a ship that costs 225 million, I wonder how long it would take to make up the cost and start turning a profit. Spend a week in space between the jump point and each planet, maybe a week or two (or three) attached to a JumpShip, and a few days in port - it adds up to a long time. And, unless you own a JumpShip (which is its own expense), you'll have to rent time on someone else's docking ring. Of course, I might be overestimating the cost of interstellar travel, or underestimating the value of a thousand tons of whatever you're carrying.

I'd hate to join up with one of these, only to discover that one of the other four crewman is horribly annoying.

Even for intersystem travel (from a cargo station in orbit to a recharge station at the jump point) it is very slow (only able to accelerate with 0,5g)!
Ok: With maximium thrust it can attain 1g but would consume much more fuel!
Try a slightly faster variant (my 2 ct)!

Okay I will play around with this some. I all ways felt that the BT universe was missing the merchant level of things, it get's mentioned but that's it. So given that 90% of the dropships won't be military, I went with the idea that there should be more commerical class ships.
