I love this - cheap little AC5 carriers are the backbone of conventional forces in 3025 - from the Scorpion via the Vedette to the Partisan. Not to forget the Gremlin Armored Car of Stardate v3#4!

However, this thing really is very, very similar to the Scorpion. The wheeled chassis allows for an extra half ton of armour and a 2nd MG, right?

I would probably enjoy a 5/8 version with less MG and less armour, seeing as the AC5 really is the main asset and should be accentuated - leave the infantry to dedicated vehicles. Yes, it then becomes a lighter competitor to the Gremlin, but that one is rather obscure, anyways!

It's similar to the Scorp, but at the same it's not. I went more off the idea of WW2 and post WW2 armored cars for this one. Though a variant or ten could be out there offering many changes to get a better vehicle etc...

And the Germlin is from Battletechnologies not Stardate.

Nope, sorry, as I said: Stardate 3/4. That's a definite (it's what I do as far as BT hobby is concerned). Did you mean the Kruger Combat Car found in BT#17?

Stardate also devoted one of their various "put-20th-century-fighting-vehicles-into-one-or-more-of-the-various-sci-fi-games" articles to scout cars of post-WW2, featuring the likes of Saladin, BRMD-1, etc. Actually, that was StarDrive 1/1. They all (apart from said BRMD) fielded an AC2, though.

Look either way the vehicle is a cheap route for someone to go to fill out their forces. It's not meant to go toe to toe with anything larger then it's own weight, will that happen, no, but that is what I came up with.

Yes it's similar to a lot of the armored car type units out there, why? Because they all have the same thing in common. Small, lightly armed, light armor and speeds range from really fast to mediocre.

I wasn't going for a reinvention of the wheel. And the Germlin get's mention in BTechologies several times in fact they list it in one of their mega listings of mechs and vehicles.

Ah, now, as I said - I really do love it. Cheap ICE engines (which the Gremlin is not, btw) and AC5s - the absolute best thing you can do with conventional armour in 3025 days!

What I meant was that I would love to see a 5/8 vehicle in addition to this fine machine!

About the old magazines - it was beautiful how interlinked they were. Ie BT, which came slightly later totally built on the stuff published in SD. They also carried over some of the writers. I love how the Firefox ultra-light is published in SDr 1/1, but the poem that was hinted to in the fluff was later released in a BT magazine. So really, those two magazines are of the same caliber!

I also really love the fact that you see their importance, Karagin. Makes me feel less like I'm talking into the void!
