The Tiger brought the 8,8 cm gun into battle but though it had very heavy armor the outer form of the armor was very unfavorable and a step backwards from the Panther.

The Tiger II tried to eleminate the Tiger I 's problems.
Nearly perfectly armored and armed with an 8,8 cm gun with an even faster muzzle velocity this tank was a technical marvel!
But all that came for a price! It now was 3,5 times heavier as the Panzer III (Though it seems that german tank designers of that period didn't think that a tank can be too heavy as we will see later!) and slower than all its predeccessors up to the Panther!
