I don't have any numbers, but they happen much more frequently than that. The difference is they generally don't happen with the same magnitude as those that strike up in the belt states, so go mostly unnoticed.
With that said, the team says they used it to honor those who died in the big Tornado of 1953. I actually like the name. Makes for a cool logo as well. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

The average is just under 3 a year in MA...
Oklahoma, 54. So if we make it 1/3 to match the size of the state of MA, then 18. Of course most of it hits farm land and nothing inhabited. I left right before the first ever F6. Went back to visit. One buddy lost their house and my best man had a telephone pole smash his new car.
