Own the book, recently seen movie. Both are good, but the book is MUCH better. If you like fantasy in an epic style, give it a read. I've yet to read the other 2 books in the series but off to buy them soon.

I read both Eragon and Eldest, but from what I heard about the movie I'm glad that I missed it...

Eragon was good in my opinion and as nothing is ever as good as the book i try to judge movies for just the movie. The biggest thing to me about the movie is that it shows that a 'Dragon Riders of Pern' movie could and can be made.

It wasn't about mis-adaptation of the book. Most people complained about bad actors, moments going against logic, ...
I must see the movie before I can say something more.

Now I can say that the movie is really bad. I din't enjoy it. Without reading the book it would be confusing, but it changes too many things, so for those, who actually read it it's a source of dissappointment.

Personally I'd rather see the pernese dragons given an epic movie series as was done with LOTR. Otherwise it'd end up too crappy for those of us who are die hard Anne McCafferey Fans and lovers of Pern. I've read ALL the pern books, and reread many of them several times. I would also prefer that the movies be done in chronological order, as the order the books were written jumps around the timeline a little. But yea, it can and SHOULD be done.
